Position Summary

Assistant Managers – Operations are responsible for leading and managing associates involved with activities in the front and back end of our stores which include check-out areas, returns, special services, computer systems and receiving. They are also responsible for managing the receiving, unloading, distribution and stocking of merchandise in the store.

Assistant Sales Managers are responsible for ensuring that associates provide exceptional customer service, while achieving sales goals. This includes ensuring customer satisfaction, driving sales, building sales skills and product knowledge. Effective Assistant Sales Managers maximize productivity and profitability by balancing sales and expenses, identifying sales opportunities and maintaining customer service standards. They must demonstrate knowledge of the store’s purpose and goals and have the skills to help associates achieve those goals.

The primary responsibilities of the Sales Associate position are to maintain outstanding customer service, generate sales, merchandise product, and support the store management team.

Major Responsibilities

The major responsibilities for this position include:

  • Responsible for ensuring the store is recovered and ready for business every day
  • Maintain record keeping accurately
  • Ensure that open/close procedures are followed
  • Ensure that all daily inventory management tasks are completed:
    • Stocked
    • Zero outs
    • Rain checks
    • Special orders
    • Cycle counting
  • Resolve customer complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner
  • Make sure that the sales floor is clear, organized and properly signed, and that the receiving floor is clear of pallets and trash
  • Responsible for support store manager in training all associates on store policies and procedures
  • Delegate daily workload among associates
  • Enforces safety policies and procedures; is a safety role model
  • Train, coach and observe associates using the basic S.A.L.E.S. process.
  • Provide input into merchandising decisions to the store manager
  • Resolve customer and employee complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner
  • Lead associate team to accomplish store goals
  • Be proficient in all store technology (i.e., ACENET, POS system)
  • Ensure data accuracy within the store system
  • Ensure adequate inventory levels to minimize outages
  • Monitor inventory management reports
  • Maintain location codes
  • Support introduction of new items to store mix
  • Monitor shrinkage and recommend ways to reduce theft and breakage in the store
  • Identify obsolete inventory and recommend how to best remove it
  • Ensure each customer receives outstanding service which follows the S.A.L.E.S process and by mystery shop standards
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store manager
  • Assist in the training and development of peers
  • Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards
  • Participate in the processing of new shipments and help the team to keep the receiving and back stock area clean and organized
  • Responsive of safety issues
  • Conscious of shoplifting activity
  • Aid customers in locating merchandise in store, on acehardware.com, as well as, processing special orders
  • Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards card
  • Answer customers’ questions and provide information on procedures and policies

Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Skills/Knowledge:  Strong leadership and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead and develop others
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with a high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements

The minimum physical requirements for this position include:

  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Extensive walking required to support store operations and property safety
  • Ability to walk the property for an extended period of time throughout the day
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, pull and / or push
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to assist others
  • Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting and perform all functions as set forth
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds frequently to load and unload customer orders.

Job responsibilities may change based on the needs of the business.

  • Train store staff on inventory management best practices
  • Analytical ability to investigate/audit the reasons inventory counts are inaccurate.
  • Detail-oriented person who enjoys working with numbers.
  • Experience: General understanding of inventory principles and experience with retail programs
