Heritage Club, located in Mason, OH is seeking a positive, highly motivated Assistant Superintendent to work under the supervision of the Superintendent of Golf Course and Grounds. Strong leadership, a positive attitude, critical thinking, efficient planning, and the motivation to become a Golf Course Superintendent are all expectations of becoming our next Assistant. 
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendents supervise and perform all tasks involved in Golf Course maintenance. The Assistant participates in a diverse range of activities involved in Golf Course maintenance including staffing, scheduling and performing daily course preparation, equipment operation and mowing. All planning of and completing chemical applications, record keeping, and inventory management. Water management including hand-watering, operation and maintenance of the irrigation system, its control system and pump station. Observes the completion of work and recognizes any issues with equipment and assists the Equipment Manager with maintaining the equipment fleet.

ABOUT HERITAGE CLUB:

Heritage Club was established in 1996 by co-developers Ken Campbell and Robert Rhein who were also developing the surrounding community.  The Club was designed for golfers to enjoy playing golf at a moments notice; the Equity Membership capacity of 295 was set to allow Members to play without tee times. In 2003, the Club was turned over from the developers to the membership and today the Club remains member-owned.  

The P.B. Dye designed 18-hole championship Golf Course offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience.  The multiple tee locations are ideal for golfers of all skill levels.  While our meticulously maintained Golf Course has always been the principal attraction, the Clubhouse underwent a major transformation in 2016, redefining the country club experience.  From top to bottom, the Club's already spectacular clubhouse has been updated with state-of-the-art new spaces, furnishings and decor with a goal of exceeding the needs and expectations of the Club's membership.

  • Total rounds - 19,000 annually
  • Total staff - 8-11 full time. 28-30 in season
  • Future projects- Irrigation system and new shop in 2026, several master plan projects, regrassing fairways in 2025.

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:

  • Supervises and schedules all work performed on the Golf Course and club grounds
  • Trains new and existing employees for all daily functional tasks from mowing, raking bunkers, detail work to more advanced tasks such as watering, course set up and small projects. 
  • Help build a championship culture Golf Course operation with high attention to detail and team building.
KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, APTITUDE AND OTHER TRAITS:
  • Embrace the challenge of various functions and routine maintenance activities directed by the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Safely and effectively operate sprayers and mix chemicals across greens, tees, and fairways, following precise procedures.
  • Master the operation of fertilizer equipment for optimal course health.
  • Take charge of all chemical and fertilizer calibrations with precision and expertise.
  • Maintain meticulous records of chemical and fertilizer inventory year-round, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to procure chemicals and fertilizers within our budget.
  • Lead training sessions for staff on the proper use of chemicals, fertilizers, and essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Manage the irrigation system and its components with skill and care.
  • Demonstrate your ability to follow both oral and written directions while fostering teamwork among colleagues.
  • Tackle fall leaf removal and winter snow removal with enthusiasm and efficiency.
  • Assist in the reconstruction of greens, tees, and fairways, from grading to seeding and sodding.
  • Play a key role in Golf Course projects, including renovations, aerifications, drainage, tree removal, and construction.
  • Dive into necessary winter repairs and spruce up the course and course accessories during the off-season.
  • Take charge of scheduling and assigning daily cleaning tasks to maintain a top-notch maintenance facility.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of all machines and promptly report any issues to the Equipment Technician.
  • Wear your uniform with pride and adhere to personal protective clothing and equipment guidelines for safety.
  • Be ready to tackle any other tasks requested by management, the Club, or the Owner with dedication and enthusiasm.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Certificate, Associate's, Bachelors of Science in turf related field or Turfgrass certificate
  • 3 or more years of experience
  • Able to acquire Ohio Pesticide license in 90 days
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends as these are the busiest times for the Golf Course.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • $65,000- $75,000 depending on experience
