Provides legal advice, counsel and representation for all areas of the Health system, with a specific focus on Labor and Employment matters. Exercise high level of independent judgment, sets own objectives and decides how to proceed in resolving difficult problems.

1. Provides legal advice, counsel and representation for all areas of the Health System, which includes providing advice and counsel on Labor and Employment matters, including negotiation and administration of collective-bargaining agreements, counsel concerning union organizing, representation of Health System employers in matters before the National Labor Relations Board, in grievance arbitrations, before city, state and federal employment agencies, and in employment litigation in state and federal courts, and other work as needed.
2. Assists in overseeing and directing outside attorneys.
3. Provides advice and guidance to departments to identify solutions to complex legal problems and to ensure work performance meets Health System objectives and department standards.
4. Keeps current regarding legal and non-legal developments affecting Health System labor and employment matters.

- Graduated with a law degree from a nationally recognized and approved law school.
- Licensed to practice as an attorney as required by the State of New York.
- Work requires in-depth knowledge of Labor and Employment law in order to respond to unique and complex legal issues and to provide effective advice and counsel at a level generally acquired through at least six years of progressively more responsible, related experience.Experience negotiating collective-bargaining agreements and providing advice and counsel on union organizing and general law matters is strongly preferred. Experience with a law firm focused on labor and employment matters is preferred.
- Must have interpersonal skills necessary to oversee and direct the work of others, to negotiate agreements, to represent the Health System in judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings, and to maintain effective contacts with counsel, and clearly communicate complex legal concepts to Health System Board members, executives, managers and staff.
- Must have high level of analytical skills necessary to respond to unique and complex legal issues, to participate in developing legal strategies, present legal arguments orally and in writing and provide effective legal counsel.
- Handle a variety of tasks within a focused range of substantive Labor and Employment legal practice, but with the capability to learn new areas quickly. Ability to prioritize work with sensitivity and balance information gathering with timely action.
