Under the direction of the Director Fitness and the Senior Director Strength and Performance the Assistant Director Fitness is responsible for member experience and fitness center orientation and assistance with program development. This position will add to branch leadership and maintain branch culture while interacting closely with members and wellness staff. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Wellness Center coverage including, but not limited to, scheduling appointments and provide orientations
- Perform duties as an On Duty Manager for other Fitness staff
- Assist in the creation of original programming
- Lead fitness programming for members
- Deliver a professional experience for athletes and their families
- Instruct, motivate, and assist clients in an ethical manner to achieve their goals
- Deliver paramount customer service in line with the YMCA's core values
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Indirectly supervises employees and carries out responsibilities in accordance with the association's policies, mission, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting with hiring, training and directing work for employees. Will also address complaints and resolve problems.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health & Human Performance, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology, or related field
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills
- Minimum 1 year of personal training/strength coaching experience
- Must possess and maintain a personal training certification
- Acquire a CPR certification within 30 days of hire
Preferred
- Sport-specific training experience
- Youth and teen programming experience
- Experience as a primary schedule oversight for an individual or team
- Experience with programming for active older adult population
- Working experience in program development
- Saturday morning availability
SKILLS and ABILITIES

- Strong public relations skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills
