ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Under direction of the Assistant Commissioner for Facility Planning and Building Operations, assist with the day-to-day management of the administration of the Department of Facility Planning and Building Operations, including coordinating shipping and distribution of library materials. Working on existing logistics systems and directing daily operations of Motor Truck Drivers. Help manage purchasing, warehousing, distribution, forecasting, and/or customer service. Respond to staff system wide via telephone, email, and in-person regarding daily facility issues, telecommunication, and furniture + fixtures + equipment. Maintain documentation related to these matters. Represents CPL and supervisor at construction meetings with architects, contractors, and related personnel during the construction phase of each project. Work with branch managers and district chiefs to correct ongoing branch building problems and to acquire furniture and equipment as needed. Oversee the receipt and distribution of furniture, equipment, and supplies from a city-maintained storage area. Prepares monthly Facilities Reports. Other duties as assigned.

LOCATION: 400 S. State Street – Harold Washington Library Center - Material Movement

DAYS OFF: Saturday and Sunday; but may be required to work some evenings and weekends.

SHIFT: Monday – Friday

HOURS: 35 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours


THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE


Qualifications


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Construction Management, Building Systems or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of work experience in the administration of maintenance and repair services for physical facilities of which one (1) year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.


Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:


  • Experience in facilities, logistics, project management
  • People management experience
  • Experience in Library construction and maintenance projects is a plus
  • Logistics experience for a large facility/warehouse or library
  • Previous experience operating and managing facilities across multiple locations
