Working within The Candler Foundry at Candler School of Theology, the Assistant Director of Community Learningand Partnerships works to cultivate rich and durable relationships with a diverse range of congregations, community groups, and other institutions (e.g., libraries, museums, non-profits, faith-based start-ups, etc.) for the purpose of fostering new pathways for theological education beyond Candler’s seminary degree programs. The individual will have three primary responsibilities: (1) create and sustain congregational networks through which clergy and lay leaders can share resources, collaborate on educational initiatives, and come together to participate in programs and events through The Candler Foundry; (2) Provide leadership over two of The Candler Foundry’s core programs: Courses in the Community and Foundations in Faith & Leadership; and (3) Collaborate with The Candler Foundry team in imagining new initiatives and digital resources designed to make theological exploration more accessible and engaging for public audiences. The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director of The Candler Foundry and will collaborate closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including the Foundry’s Scholar in Residence, Candler faculty, alumni, students, and faith leaders in and beyond Atlanta.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Assists in directing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs.
  • Represents the organization at meetings, conferences and other events. May develop and present speeches or presentations to generate or enhance awareness of program(s).
  • Provides technical support by evaluating established processes, conducting training, attending operational meetings and networking with affiliated groups.
  • Monitors progress toward achieving established objectives and deadlines. Participates in planning, administering and monitoring program related budgets.
  • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and collaborates with others to ensure program(s) remain viable.
  • May serve on, hold office in, or chair committees.
  • May write publishable articles and papers.
  • May supervise staff.
  • Oversees or assists in developing operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures required records and documentation are maintained.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program(s) and five years of program related experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s-level degree in theological studies (MDiv, MTS, etc.)
    Experience working in congregational ministry, community organizing, and/or other modes of public-facing ministry
  • A demonstrated capacity for building relationships across lines of theological, cultural, and racial difference
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate with clergy, lay leaders, and other community partners
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Advanced theological training (PhD, ThD, or DMin)

 

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
