Job Summary

The University of Chicago Law School seeks an Assistant Director of Career Services for Communications and Reporting to join its seasoned team of professionals, providing a comprehensive range of career services to students and alumni of the University of Chicago Law School, with emphasis on coordinating and executing the communications efforts of the Office of Career Services, as well as assisting with employment data collection, analysis, and reporting. This position reports to the Director of Career Services.

Responsibilities
  • Delivering a wide range of career counseling and advising, coaching, outreach, and programming services for JD and LLM students and alumni, including private sector, public sector, and non-traditional career development.
  • Serving as the point person on Career Services communications to ensure that students are informed about resources and prepared for internship and job opportunities, including developing and evaluating effective online, print, and email communications; staying up to date on communications tools and strategies; ensuring a unified and strategic approach to Career Services communications; and coordinating the Career Services communications efforts.
  • Maintaining records to assist the Career Services team in providing comprehensive services to students and alumni and in fulfilling internal and external reporting obligations.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and auditing employment data to assist the Career Services team in fulfilling internal and external reporting obligations.
  • Maintaining detailed and up to date knowledge of employment data reporting requirements.
  • Providing significant direct individual coaching and advising to law students and alumni.
  • Assisting with core Career Services programming, including developing and executing effective programs and related materials to ensure that students are prepared for the job search and job opportunities.
  • Assisting with the administration of the Career Services Interview Coaching Program as requested.
  • Partnering with appropriate staff, employers, and alumni to develop and implement strategic plans for employer relations and development.
  • Developing alumni job contacts for students.
  • Conducting environmental scanning to identify job resources, information, and opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Representing the Office of Career Services to internal and external audiences.
  • Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
  • Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • A post baccalaureate degree; a Juris Doctor or Master's degree.


Experience:
  • Minimum experience of two years providing career or recruitment services to law students, lawyers, and others in the legal profession.


Preferred Competencies
  • Excellent coaching, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to respect the confidentiality of counseling and institutional information.
  • Ability to interact comfortably and positively with all constituents.
  • Ability to perform efficiently and with a positive outlook even when under stress.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and a team approach to interpersonal interactions and problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise considerable judgment and discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail, including close reading and editing.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to computer software and applications required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, preferred. Experience with Excel and ability to work comfortably with and analyze large amounts of data.
  • Ability to work occasional evening, weekend, and early morning hours.
  • Ability to travel required, as needed.
