ALUMNI RELATIONS DEPARTMENT 

The Alumni Relations office works to create exciting and memorable events that connect alumni to the college in meaningful ways. Through travel to alumni hometowns, virtual events and on-campus reunions, our team creates opportunities for alumni connection: to Whitman, to current students and to each other.


POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations is a key member of a team developing programs to engage alumni, parents and friends of the college. The Assistant Director works closely with passionate, loyal alumni volunteers and a dedicated, experienced staff to strengthen the connection between the college and alumni of all ages. 


HIRING SALARY RANGE

Successful applicants can expect to start between $50,000 and $55,000. Salary within the larger range will be determined based on qualifications and experience. 


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work collaboratively with a wide-range of on-campus and off-campus constituents. 
  • The Office of Alumni Relations is committed to intentional engagement with alumni of diverse backgrounds with an eye towards equity and inclusion. In-person and virtual events coordinated by the Assistant Director will reflect this commitment.
  • Working with volunteers to create class-specific programs during Fall Reunion Weekend; organizing alumni activities, both in-person and virtual; coordination of various aspects of special alumni programs.
  • The Assistant Director will be assigned to specific geographic areas; they will be responsible for planning a variety of educational, social and activity-oriented events. 
  • The Assistant Director will serve as the office’s subject matter expert for technology platforms used in daily operations, and assume the role of leading the office in acquiring proficiency with those platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Alumni Relations when bandwidth is available.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to advance the College’s core values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Exceptional organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with volunteers and campus constituents.
  • Ability to navigate travel to and through a variety of cities required.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace tools, LinkedIn, and the ability to learn new computer applications. 
  • Passion for, knowledge of or willingness to learn about liberal arts education and advancement.
  • Ability to share technological proficiency through peer to peer training.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of work experience in higher education alumni work or related work, such as event planning, public relations, marketing, fundraising, or any combination of experience that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with databases.
