Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Central University School of Law was founded to provide opportunities for African Americans to become lawyers. Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Admissions serves as one a point of contact for prospective students who call, visit, or apply to the NCCU School of Law. The Assistant Director counsels undergraduate students, second career applicants, and prelaw advisors on admission to the NCCU School of Law. The Assistant Director will coordinate national recruitment schedules for the Office of Admissions, develop and implement innovative methods of recruiting talented applicants, and represent the School of Law at national law school recruitment events. The Assistant Director will work with the Office of Communications to create recruitment materials across media platforms. The Assistant Director will review applications for admission to the School of Law and make recommendations on applications to the Admissions Committee. The Assistant Director also complete other administrative duties for the Office of Admissions as assigned. This position reports directly to the Director of Admissions and work as part of a team to recruit a highly select and diverse class to the law school.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Develops admissions organizational strategies by contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
• Maintaining continuing flow of quality applicants and transfers to the university by analyzing trends in enrollment and marketing activities, leading activities to continue programs that are effective; modifying programs; presenting new strategies for recruitment and admission activities.
• Welcome prospective students to the campus by staging semi-annual open houses
• Energetic student-oriented and mission-centered engagement with the NCCU-Law community and its technology programs.
• Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Basic computer skills; proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and similar software.
• Experience with software related to legal education and research platforms.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
.Ability and willingness to work with varied constituencies including students, faculty, administrative colleagues, and staff.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
Aptitude for learning and effectively using multiple platforms including proprietary databases
• Dependability, professional demeanor and customer-service orientation.
Minimum Education/Experience
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree; JD strongly preferred
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-3 years of work experience in a related job discipline; Experience in admissions or higher education strongly preferred
Other Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience with diversity and inclusion initiatives. Experience with PeopleSoft, ACES2, or comparable database management systems.

• Represent NCCU School of Law and serve as the face of the school and broader community and with prospective families while communicating the mission.
• Engage and inform prospective parents and students about the School of Law and the benefits of a law school education on an individual, small, and large group basis.
• Inspire the community to actively participate in admissions events including; individual and group tours, student shadow visits, curricular information sessions, student observations/testing/interview, parent to parent connections, and individual family conversations.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with area educational constituencies including area schools, preschools, consultants, admissions directors and organizations and create networking opportunities.
• Lead and develop a communications plan with prospective families to move them from inquiry to enrollment.
• Oversee and participate in the development of Admissions materials, events and marketing practices.
• Coordinate systematic and efficient handling of applications and communications with parents of student applicants so that the process supports and honors the student and their family.
• Manage parent and student expectations and deliver admissions decisions in a manner that is honest, caring, and diplomatic.
