Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The University Office for Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) serves as the diversity arm of the University. D&I is led by the Chief Diversity Officer and has the responsibility of providing University-wide leadership in building and sustaining an inclusive campus community that values and respects all members of the university community and beyond.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Education, Community Engagement and Special Initiatives in the University for Diversity and Inclusion reports to the Director of Education, Community Engagement & Belonging and has responsibilities for the design and implementation of diversity , equity and inclusion educational offerings, programs, and experiential activities, and for the coordination and /or implementation of special projects and programs aimed at bolstering diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural awareness, and engaging diverse constituents through fostering partnerships and collaborations.
More specifically, the Asst. Director will:
Be responsible for conceptualizing and assisting with implementing strategies that guide diversity, equity, and inclusion education and trainings for students, faculty and staff at the University. This includes the design, development, and implementation of a wide range of training classes and curricula (e.g., bias, microaggressions, allyship, psychological safety and inclusion, and inclusive curriculum development) to ensure that managers and employees of the University have the necessary skills and competencies to meet the University’s operational and business needs, and to support students and employee talent development. Responsible for facilitating conversations using dialogue techniques to assist departments, units and programs with difficult issues.
Assist with evaluating programs to ensure their continued effectiveness. To work closely with the director and VP/CDO to ensure that education and training strategies and curricula appropriately reflect the needs stated in the University strategic plan.
Additional duties include but are not limited to:
Serve as the assigned point person for DEI education and consultation opportunities to work collaboratively across the campus. To assist with the research, design, coordination, management, and delivery of programs and events for the University such as seminars, campus lectures, symposia, conferences, leadership institutes for faculty, staff and students.
Utilizing existing and emerging technologies (e.g., web-based) to expand DEI and cultural competence education opportunities.
Working with assessment staff to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of educational experiences and learning technologies.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to the delivery of student advising and counseling or student personnel services, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Demonstrated superb cross-cultural skills with the ability to successfully approach, build trust and negotiate across multiple cultures, markets, and community/business leaders.
Demonstrated ability to gain consensus among multiple stakeholders in a decentralized environment.
Demonstrated ability to partner with others to guide projects to successful completion while staying within budget.
Ability to translate organizational programs and services into engaging and accessible stories and other content for a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated experience managing budgets and adhering to budget-conscious practices.
Ability to serve as a chief liaison between senior office leadership, staff, DEI leaders and organizations across the University and beyond.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, lean organization.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Previous professional experience in higher education or a complex organizational setting is required; or higher education experience in the public sector is strongly preferred.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
