Purpose of Position

We’re looking for a Principal Scientist, Community Benefits and Stakeholder Engagement Focus, to join our dynamic team at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC)!

As a Principal Scientist, Community Benefits and Stakeholder Engagement Focus, you will contribute to the success of the organization by performing one or more of the following:

  • Work closely with a team of technical staff to develop and implement project-based outreach plans and Stakeholder Engagement strategies, including workforce development and DEIA planning and execution.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are completed according to project manager expectations within the established timelines and budgets.
  • Develop and communicate expertise specific to Community Benefits planning and execution as well as the technical aspects of a variety of energy-related projects.
  • Work with project teams and EERC clients to communicate Stakeholder Engagement strategies and information on solutions that enable prudent and economic production of fossil fuels, renewable, and alternative energy; reduce the carbon intensity of energy production; and assist stakeholders in understanding the benefits, risks, and regulatory implications of energy.
  • Ensure the consistency of Community Benefits plan development and implementation across all EERC projects.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate, through virtual and in-person meetings, project updates, procedures, methods, and progress to stakeholders that could include internal EERC project teams, project managers, clients, and external colleagues in the scientific community (i.e., conferences).
  • Develop and enhance client relations; manage and mentor personnel; oversee budgets; prepare and review technical reports, outreach materials, conference papers, and journal articles; and prepare and deliver technical presentations.
  • Some travel is required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, anthropology, technical communication, earth science, or related field.
  • 8 years of professional experience in writing and reviewing reports in a technical field and communicating technical project results to diverse audiences.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring personnel.
  • Experience working on projects related to energy development and production, carbon capture and sequestration, and/or natural resources development and management.
  • A presentation to the interviewers during the interview process on the qualifications and experience of the applicant that makes them suitable for the position.
  • A cover letter and resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in social science, anthropology, technical communication, earth science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or working on projects with a diverse group of staff and external project partners.
  • 5 years of experience in technical project planning, management, data interpretation, and reporting while meeting established deadlines and budgets.
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing Community Benefits plans for technical projects.
