Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Academic Services has a primary focus of academic advising and administrative support for Booth students. The Assistant Director works directly with students, faculty and staff in Hyde Park and at the downtown Chicago campus. This individual is responsible for ensuring a successful program experience for all students.
This position will have responsibilities at the Hyde Park and downtown Chicago campuses.
Responsibilities
  • Advises students on the curriculum, course selection, and schedule planning, and helps manage career and professional trade-offs during their program of study.
  • Communicates policies and administrative and academic requirements to ensure successful progression to degree completion.
  • Supports students with academic issues, including academic progress, personal challenges impacting academics, and working with faculty.
  • Manages a portfolio of several key academic areas and their associated administrative processes.
  • Develops and provides content support for academic advising; videos, websites, email.
  • Supports online advising tools including the Program of Study Tool, the bidding system, course descriptions, and curriculum web pages.
  • Delivers area specific presentations to current and incoming students.
  • Liaise between students and faculty.
  • Proctors accommodated exams.
  • Completes special or seasonal projects.
  • Advises students with minor academic difficulties and counseling while responding to queries from faculty, staff and parents.
  • Keeps records of student degree programs and notes on student conversations.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:
  • Master’s in academically related field.
Experience:
  • At least one year of responsible, progressive experience in higher education.
  • Experience in academic advising, including a strong understanding of graduate programs and curricula.
Preferred Competencies
  • Proven outstanding interpersonal skills that encourages teamwork, engagement and trust with students and other Chicago Booth administrative offices.
  • Balance empathy with consistent application of policies/procedures.
  • Excellent listening, written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Work independently and with initiative to consistently meet deadlines, problem-solve, exercise good judgment, prioritize, make decisions, and work under pressure during seasonal high volume.
  • Maintain and safeguard student confidentiality.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, technological and data analysis skills.
Working Conditions
  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
  • Work on-site evening and weekend hours, including Saturday rotations and evening student events as necessary.
