THE ROLE

Join our dynamic design team as an Assistant Designer for John Varvatos, where creativity and innovation thrive. As an Assistant Designer for John Varvatos, you will be at the forefront of creating remarkable fashion collections that reflect the essence of our brand. You’ll collaborate with a dynamic team of creative minds and have the opportunity to shape our collection from concept to completion with a focus in knitwear.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

• Collaborate with the Senior Designer to craft a cohesive collection that aligns with the brand's distinctive aesthetic.
• Conduct ongoing market research to identify new trends, fabrics, details, patterns, and stitches. Present tear sheets, sketches, and samples to the Senior Designer.
• Develop prints and stitch pattern CADs that harmonize with the brand identity and current trends, all while being mindful of cost considerations.
• Create and update comprehensive Tech packs from prototype to bulk production.
• Ensure prompt and accurate updates of any design changes in Tech packs, reflecting pertinent details such as thread, trim, lab dip comments, and quality approvals.
• Organize and present cohesive presentation boards.
• Maintain well-organized bins of lab dips, qualities, and samples on a seasonal basis.
• Manage and adhere to the design calendar, attending all relevant product meetings as required.
• Provide assistance with other responsibilities and projects as needed.
• Support the design team during styling for shows and presentations.

WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED

• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot and work effectively under pressure.
• Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities.
• Resourceful, hands-on, with a sense of urgency.
• Understanding of knitting techniques, machine gauges, and stitch construction.
• Innate awareness of the perceived value of a product.

EXPERIENCE

• Undergraduate degree in fashion design or a related field.
• Strong CAD skills using Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop.
• Proficient hand sketching skills.

Pay Range in New York, NY:
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
Base Salary:
$23.00/hr - $24.00/hr
