Purpose:

Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs. The Assistant Dean is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, assessing, and continuously improving programs and services related to students at Lincoln University. The Assistant Dean of Student Services will lead the Health and Counseling Center, Access and Ability, the RSVP Center, and Career Services.

  • The incumbent will hire, onboard, provide training, evaluate, and supervise departmental staff.
  • Provide strategic leadership, direction, and management of Student health and wellness, student disability, and career services.
  • Ensures that these units' routine operations, programs, and services are professionally and efficiently organized, administered, and delivered.
  • Coordinate strategic planning activities across medical, counseling, health promotion, sexual violence prevention and disability resources.
  • Oversee strategic planning and campus partnerships.
  • Supervise and manage directors and recommend personnel decisions regarding hiring, promotions, salary adjustments, and terminations.
  • Manage relationships with third-party providers and student medical and counseling service vendors, including contractual arrangements, quality assurance, and consultation on individual student cases.
  • Oversee the development and approval of annual budgets and financial forecasts and ensure that the programs and services of Student health and wellness and the counseling center are managed in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Develop and implement systems to assess the quality and effectiveness of all student health and wellness programs and career services by establishing ongoing quality improvement methods.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders with a focus on developing new and innovative partnerships that can be leveraged to facilitate students transition into the workforce and to increase opportunities for engagement in hands-on learning.
  • Know current legal issues related to the employment of protected classes and international students and refer students or employers to appropriate authorities.
  • Manage the campus and employer relations function to include consulting with employers regarding the labor market, supply, salary levels, and trends in recruiting and selecting employees.
  • Consult with employers on best strategies for establishing and developing effective recruitment programs for both full and part time employees, co-ops, and internships to include employer's use of campus recruiting, job fairs, posting jobs, and internships on job search system, making campus visits to talk to students and faculty, supporting and sponsoring campus events and other career services functions to arrange, continue, and improve employment opportunities for LU students and graduates.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student personnel, student development, or relevant field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of best and emergent practices for the development and assessment of Student life affairs or a diverse student body at a college or University.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proven competence in leadership and supervision of Students and staff.
  • Ability to manage budgets.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to organize and coordinate events and activities.
  • Proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend activities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Must prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, develop communication strategies and work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must understand the many facets of marketing at a dynamic university.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with high accuracy.
  • The high degree of organization, ability to engage in various tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential University information.
  • Be team oriented.

Physical Demands:

  • The nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment.
  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Work performed in a general office environment.
