Position Summary
Reporting to the sr. Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for managing the academic appointments and promotion process for instructional and research faculty, officers of research, and student officers for the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP). The Assistant Dean is responsible for driving efficiency, quality, and a high standard of customer service for faculty, including faculty hires/rehires and a variety of personnel actions. The Assistant Dean will provide faculty coaching and guidance, support with complex transactions and exceptions, and will address key issues with GSAPP units and other key stakeholders. The Assistant Dean will direct the School's faculty affairs and ensure compliance with the policies, procedures and the regulations of the University, affiliated organizations, and external agencies. As part of the Dean's senior team, will develop and maintain an efficient high-functioning infrastructure to support the School's mission.

Responsibilities
- The Assistant Dean is responsible for final review of appointment letters and faculty on-boarding. Advises faculty and Program Directors on policies relating to academic appointments. Responsible for issuing faculty appointment letters under the Dean's signature. Ensures compliance with University policies & procedures and applicable federal, state and local laws. Interprets University and School policies for faculty concerning human resources and payroll. This includes preparing written policy statements for distribution to School employees and providing individual guidance on specific transactions. Works with the ISSO on the visa process for non-US faculty. Collaborates with the Finance Office to ensure faculty human resources and related payroll files are accurate and complete. (20%)
- Responsible for the search process for the full-time faculty in accordance with University affirmative action and other procedures. Drafts and places advertisements in appropriate online and print venues, acknowledges applications, organizes meetings of search committees, interviews with finalists, and prepares online affirmative action data once search is complete. Assists new faculty with housing, benefits, and other issues. (20%)
- Works with the Dean on all aspects of the tenure process including developing and implementation of evaluation protocols for the purposes of faculty promotion, tenure, or cumulative review. Responsible for developing, implementing and enforcing GSAPP policies that are in accordance with the University tenure process. (20%)
- In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Students and Sr. Associate Dean of Administration & Faculty Affairs administers the Architecture, Historic Preservation, and Urban Planning PhD Programs. Manages the application and appointment process for student officers of instruction (Teaching Assistants). (10%)
- Responsible for the Dean's Office confidential faculty database that track appointments, salaries, and other faculty information. Provides faculty compensation analyses for the Dean. Prepares reports on faculty as requested by the Provost's Office and other University offices. As the School evolves and new appointment categories for Officers of Instruction and Officer of Research are needed, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for compiling information and preparing proposals for the University Senate, Affirmative Action office, and other University offices as requested. Prepares reports accrediting bodies. (20%)

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years related experience required, preferably in higher education administration and a setting of a high-level University office environment.
- Must have familiarity with standard hiring policies and procedures and with immigration categories and procedures.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to act with tact and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an architecture setting preferred.
- Advanced degree preferred.
