Title: Coordinator of School Nutrition Services
Reports To: Coordinator of School Nutrition Services
Takes Direction From:Coordinator of School Nutrition Services
Calendar: 7.5 hours/day 37.5 hours/week 261 days per year
Summary: Under the leadership of the Coordinator of School Nutrition Services, the Assistant Coordinator of School Nutrition Services is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing and supervising the School Nutrition service operations and programs. This includes striving to provide the North Penn School District stakeholders with the highest quality service at the most efficient level.
Essential Functions:
  • Program Development - Assists with the development of recipes and coordination of menus that comply with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) school meal program regulations. Assists with program expansion projects, stakeholder input, farm to school programs, allergy management and incorporating food and nutrition education into the program.
  • Hiring, Training, and Department Development - Assists in the hiring process for new employees and training. Evaluates staff and site compliance with local, state and federal regulation guidance. Leads, develops and evaluates staff on departmental procedures, food safety and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan. Maintains School Nutrition system for tracking all professional development. Coordinates and conducts a variety of School Nutrition training programs in varied learning environments.
  • Supervision of Schools - Serves as a supervisor and resource to staff. Assists in program operations and oversight of all school kitchens. Assists in the completion of compliance reviews and food safety audits for National School Lunch Program (NSLP), National School Breakfast Program (NSBP), After School Program (ASP), and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
  • Marketing and Communication - Assists in the development and coordination of communications, department information and promotions. Serves as a technical resource concerning health and nutrition for students, parents, personnel and the public; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning programs, policies and procedures relating to the School Nutrition Services department.
  • Catering and Supplemental Sales - Assists in the design, evaluation and execution of catering menus, events and supplemental sales such as alternative sites and a la carte products.
  • Technology - Maintains and assists with technical support for point of sale systems. Capable of installing programing and assisting with regular maintenance and troubleshooting of School Nutrition software.
  • Program Administration and Data Management - Utilizes department information systems to process and verify NSLP free and reduced meal applications; process direct certifications, participate in required verification processes. Coordinates efforts to ensure the program is operated according to state and federal standards. Assists in the collection of data and the preparation/maintenance of reports, department sheets and documents, claims and financial statements.
  • Performs other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Education and/or Certification Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality/Food Service Management, Nutrition/Dietetics or a Culinary Field is required.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential preferred.

Experience Needed:
  • Management, catering, food services/production, culinary arts professional experience required.
  • School district food services experience preferred.
  • Public speaking experience in front of large groups.

Knowledge:
  • Proficient computer knowledge
  • School district food services experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of School Nutrition regulations
  • Familiarity with professional food service equipment.

Requisite Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal, including listening skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and nurture working relationships with various stakeholders
  • Supervisory skills
  • Operate office equipment, including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet and presentation applications
  • Presentation skills
  • Proficient in computer applications such as microsoft office, google suite, Canva and/or other design programs.
  • Cooking skills

Requisite Skills:
  • Ability to run the Point of Sale computer system including financial management, professional development reporting, front and back of house, production, and other applications utilized for the management of the program.
  • Ability to earn Serv-Safe certification and serve as a trainer.
  • Ability to support a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
