The Assistant Construction Superintendent position will assist Project Superintendents with daily inspections of work performed, job safety, and job schedules. This position will coordinate work with contractors, deliveries with suppliers, and ensure inspections are scheduled appropriately. The successful candidate for this position will assist in managing small and/or medium teams, and projects of moderate complexity. Travel is required.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensure that all employees and subcontractors follow these safety requirements
- Abide by and apply OSHA safety and construction procedures, methods, and standards to every building, every day
- Willingness to maintain and operate construction and hand tools in a safe and proper manner
- Capable of working in a physically demanding environment and at various heights from ladders and aerial work platforms primarily working outside
- Work with other crew members in a safe, productive, and enjoyable work environment treating everyone with dignity and respect
- Review of completed subcontractor safety permits and daily safety inspections
- Set and maintain an operations schedule
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with project stakeholders online and in the field
- Assist with equipment budgets and rental rates
- Follow Marcus Construction’s administrative practices
- Assist superintendent with quality process, safety, and accident prevention programs
- Assist Project Management and Preconstruction teams in the drawing and submittal process; verify drawings are accurate in Procore
- Maintain a sense of personal responsibility for projects
Position Qualifications and Experience
- 3-5 years in the commercial/industrial or agriculture construction industry with a proven ability to manage projects and identify key issues in moderately complex situations
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred
- Frequent extended travel required; must be available to work across the US and Canada for extended periods of time
- Demonstrated ability to
- Understand project scheduling and cost control
- Read and understand project owner specifications and engineering drawings
- Meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done
- Work independently as well as part of a team
- Effectively communicate with team members, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Maintain highly confidential and proprietary information
- Effective written and oral communication and comprehension skills
- Preferred technology skills - experience utilizing:
- Industry-specific software, i.e. Procore, Outbuild, etc.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Teams/Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
- OSHA 30 and SWPPP certification preferred
