The role:
The Assistant Communications Manager helps manage and implement Communications programs for Kao Salon U.S. and Canada across websites, social media, advertising and public relations. Responsibilities include Kao Salon brands including Goldwell, KMS, Kerasilk and VARIS. The position works closely with internal SME teams and external agencies on key programs including website management, advertising production/placement, social media content development and interfacing with trade and consumer editors/influencers. The Assistant Communications Manager reports into the Region Communications Strategy Lead.
What you will do:
  • Managing brand social media. Includes working with the US and Canadian teams on content priorities, supervising agency on content creation/social shoots, working with brand Ambassadors, gaining Legal approvals, overseeing posting strategy/implementation. Troubleshooting comments/questions from followers. Develops monthly social media calendars for salons/distributors for Instagram and Facebook. Assists in the development of social media advertising strategy and ad placement.
  • Assisting with trade and consumer public relations activities. Responsibilities include: Submission of products, campaigns, collections to press for coverage, managing review, editing and routing of press releases, meeting with press to pitch upcoming products and programs, Representing the company at industry and press event, managing influencer programs.
  • Managing production and trafficking of consumer and trade advertisements. Works directly with trade publications on creating advertorial campaigns. Collaborates with internal team and external agency on social media ad campaign media plans.
  • Overseeing graphic projects for Communications, including materials such as sizzle reels, monthly eblasts on Communications Highlights for Salon Alliance, other video projects and specialty graphics (example: journal ads).
  • Administrative activities such as placing product orders, processing invoices, working with the outside agencies on monthly results report compilation, participating in meetings with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Managing outside agency on website updates for Canada and US. Works with outside agency to ensure timely updates of existing websites and oversees localization of new or upgraded websites. Responsibilities include managing SEO with support from an outside agency.

What you will need:
  • B.A. in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in an agency or field related to social media, website or public relations.
  • Communications Experience in the Salon or Beauty industry.
  • In depth understanding of social media.
  • Creative and energetic personality
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with others and take direction.
  • Self motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced environment. Comfortable with multi-tasking.

A reasonable pay range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000
