The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. The faculty member will hold a clinical appointment at Monmouth Medical Center in Ambulatory Care Psychiatry Pharmacy.
The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy is recognized on all levels, local, state, national, and international, as providing one of the most challenging, dynamic, and satisfying Programs of Study leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In concert with supportive faculty and staff, students at the School build a foundation for learning that continues long after graduation.
The Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration focuses on the clinical and regulatory aspects of pharmacy practice. The mission of the Department is to participate in the preparation of students to provide pharmaceutical care in its varied practice settings. Graduating students are equipped with the necessary skills to adapt to a changing healthcare environment. Students are also provided with scientific fundamentals, ethics, and attitudes necessary to adapt their careers to changes in healthcare over their lifetime. This mission supports the overall mission of the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy in four critical areas: teaching, practice, scholarship, and service.
Monmouth Medical Center is one of New Jersey's largest academic medical centers, located just three blocks from the ocean in Long Branch, New Jersey. It is associated with the RWJBarnabas Health system, the largest health system in New Jersey. Psychiatric services at Monmouth Medical Center include inpatient adult and pediatric acute psychiatric services, psychiatric emergency screening services, an outpatient mental health clinic, early intervention support services, an adult partial hospitalization program, and, most recently, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC).
Pharmacy services are currently expanding clinically. Three clinical faculty members practice in the areas of inpatient psychiatry, critical care and internal medicine. The hospital also has an antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist and a geriatric emergency pharmacy specialist. Pharmacists also serve on many committees within the hospital.
The CCBHC was designed to provide healthcare services to underserved areas throughout Monmouth County including adults with serious mental illness or substance use disorders, and children post-crisis and inpatient hospitalization. The CCBHC will aim to focus on treatment engagement, reducing crises, and providing the highest quality of care to patients with multiple comorbidities in order to achieve whole-person improvement outcomes. The faculty member will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary CCBHC team, providing direct patient care to patients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders.
Responsibilities include:
• Patient counseling and medication reconciliation
• Developing educational materials and in-service programs for staff
• Providing regular medication education groups for CCBHC patients
• Assisting with quality improvement projects or clinical initiatives
• Working collaboratively with prescribers to provide optimal pharmacotherapy recommendations
• Providing health care team members with responses to drug information questions
• Assisting prescribers with laboratory monitoring of agents such as clozapine
• Serve as preceptor and mentor PGY-1 pharmacy residents (and PGY-2 psychiatry residents, if applicable)
• Develop, implement and maintain advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE)
• Participate in didactic teaching at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
• Participate on committees, teams, and task forces relating to area of preceptor's individual practice
