Position Summary

The Assistant Clinical Professor & MSW@DenverOnline Program Director role is both a clinical faculty and administrative position that supports the overall educational mission at the Graduate School of Social Work and provides leadership to and oversight of the implementation of the MSW@Denver Online program. The primary responsibility of the Program Director is to ensure a high quality educational and training program for MSW@Denver Online.

The Program Director oversees the Assistant Program Director for MSW@Denver Online and Course Coordinator(s) who support MSW@Denver Online and other GSSW MSW (Master of Social Work) programs. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and partners with the Assistant Dean for Field Education and Community Partnerships; the Assistant Dean for Students; the Registrar, Student Services, and Career Services teams; the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; the Adjunct and Curriculum Coordinator; and the Program Directors for the Denver Campus MSW program, Four Corners MSW program, and the Western Colorado MSW program.

Appointment: The appointment will commence January 1, 2024, or sooner, with the initial appointment of the Assistant Clinical Professor assignment tied to serving in the MSW@Denver Online Director position; the latter carries a $12,500 annual stipend and is a 3-to-4 year term with the possibility of renewal. Per the University's appointment, tenure, and promotion guidelines, the Clinical Assistant Professor appointment is for an initial 3-year term, renewable per University guidelines, and with rank promotions that are possible from which longer-term contracts are applied.

Essential Functions

  • Lead all activities of the MSW@Denver Online program.
  • Consult with and support the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Associate Dean for Operations in managing the contractual partnership with 2U, Inc.
  • Work closely with GSSW's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Offices of Admission and Field Education, and the Assistant
  • Dean of Students to provide oversight and problem-solve issues related to the program and its intersection with 2U, Inc.
  • Provide strong project management and oversight.
  • Facilitate collaborations across GSSW programs.
  • Supervise any staff directly assigned to the MSW@Denver program.
  • Supervise Course Coordinator(s) assigned to the MSW programs.
  • Manage admissions and enrollment management, including orientation, with the Director of Enrollment and 2U, Inc.
  • Manage faculty assigned to teach in the program, especially adjunct faculty, with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs' advisement.
  • Manage student conflicts and issues with advisement of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Assistant Dean of Students.
  • Work with the Director of Instructional Design and Assessment to complete annual program assessments and meet accreditation requirements.
  • Serve on GSSW committees as requested, including the MSW Committee, and attend Community & Faculty of the Whole meetings.
  • Represent GSSW at national meetings (e.g., CSWE (Council on Social Work Education), the social work distance conference, and/or the annual 2U, Inc. symposium).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment, knowledge, and ability to effectively engage individuals from broadly diverse communities
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level, reflecting the school's and discipline's commitment to social justice
  • Excellent communication skills for classroom teaching, student advising, and mentoring
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Extremely high reasoning ability is of the utmost importance given the extent and complexity of a faculty member's role

Required Qualifications

  • Academic credentials to join at the rank of clinical assistant professor in the Graduate School of Social Work (master or doctoral degree in social work or related discipline, social work practice experience to teach in field of specialization, evidence of excellence in field of specialization)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with social work curriculum development;
  • Experience in mentoring adjunct faculty;
  • Experience with program or project management and oversight;
  • Ability to facilitate conflict resolution and restorative approaches to addressing concerns that may within the MSW program; and
  • Experience teaching and/or leading graduate level social work courses in online social work program

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

This position will work in office on the University of Denver campus in Denver, Colorado. 

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

This position will work in office on the University of Denver campus in Denver, Colorado.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$72,500 plus 12500 admin salary.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
