Description
This summer, Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is offering the exciting opportunity for staff to experience summer at a beautiful lakefront camp property in Western Washington. Camp staff will live on site at Camp St. Albans, at the base of the Olympic mountains on Lake Devereaux in Allyn, Washington. Camp staff will attend paid staff training.
The Assistant Camp Director is an integral part of the Camp Management Team who will work under the supervision of the Camp Director and plays an important role in setting the tone of Camp. This position provides as-needed support to staff that may include assisting missing home campers, retrieving needed supplies, or assisting in teaching an activity. This is a supervisory position responsible, in part, for overseeing the implementation, training, and assigning of duties to the entire summer overnight camp staff. They will assist in carrying out the budget and business operations for the overnight summer camp season. This position will also ensure that all outdoor programs support the program goal of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW). Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Directors for Overnight Camp will also help in evaluating current season employees while helping make recommendations for the next season.

General Responsibilities
  • Supervise and instruct campers and staff by conducting check-ins
  • Observe and assess camper and staff behavior for appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management technique
  • Participate in all aspects of camp life, including songs, meals, overnight camping trips, activities, campfire, staff training, meetings, clean-up of camp, and camp closing
  • Complete paperwork in a timely fashion, including equipment requests, Incident Reports, and evaluations
  • Carry out established duties regarding camper health, safety, and program goals
  • Set a good example by demonstrating maturity, good communication techniques, cleanliness, good hygiene, punctuality, sportsmanship, sharing, and following rules among other traits

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain
  • Desire and ability to work with campers ages 13-18 in an outdoor setting
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to all activities
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant 24-hour supervision of campers
  • Age 21+
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
  • Ability to receive instruction and supervision

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in an overnight camp setting
  • Previous Girl Scout experience
  • Previous experience supervising staff
  • Experience planning and leading teambuilding activities
  • Comfort with and ability to perform various camp activities including boating, crafts, nature hikes, outdoor cooking, chopping wood, fire building, etc.
  • Age 25+
  • Valid Driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to drive a 12-passenger van
