The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is currently seeking a highly skilled Assistant Beach Services Manager to join our team at our beautiful oceanfront property!

Pay: $67,800 - $70,000

SUMMARY

Works with Beach Services Manager to oversee the day-to-day and year-round Beach Services operations personally or through a team of tiered subordinates. Promotes and follows LJBTC, Inc.'s Signature Service standards and requirements ensuring a lasting impression of exemplary service resulting in supremely satisfied and loyal members and guests.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as department head in absence of Beach Services Manager.

  • Assists with determining work procedures and expedites work flow.

  • Issues written, oral instructions, and writes reports when required.

  • Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

  • Communicates effectively with subordinates, peers, Executive and Management team, non-guests, guests and members.

  • Provides signature service to members and guests that meet or exceed expectations.

  • Takes ownership of member, hotel guests, and guest's complaints and concerns; and ensures that they are resolved in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Creates and successfully manages department annual budget, prelim reports and forecasting.

  • Assists with development and execution of training procedures for the Beach Services team.

  • Ensures that subordinates are performing required duties. Assesses and coaches when necessary or required.

  • Ensures that the Club's beach and pool areas are set up, maintained, cleaned, and monitored to established standards at all times.

  • During summer months, maintains the La Jolla Shores Hotel Beach and Pool to this standard.

  • Ensures that the beach equipment is delivered. Ensures removal of beach equipment is completed and appropriate storage schedule is followed.

  • Ensures that the BBQ's, tables, chairs, and umbrellas are set up, cleaned, secured, and presentable at all times. Maintains off-season beach amenities (ie., firepits, etc.)

  • Enforces all Club policies and procedures.

  • Attends Manager's meeting as scheduled and participates in Club Dining/Beach Hut meetings where appropriate, particularly during peak season.

  • Educates property trespassers of rule infractions through soft enforcement, such as loitering or carrying forbidden articles, and approaches and contacts any person engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.

  • Ensures that all persons authorized on property are properly recorded on the Beach Registration Log.

  • Report and call police, lifeguards, or fire department by telephone in case of fire, injuries or the presence of unauthorized persons.

  • Ensures that subordinates are versed on pertinent Club Membership Rules and Policies and confronts violators with warnings and or exception reports.

  • Assists with training of Beach Service Leads in their duties and responsibilities.

  • Assists with training of the Beach Services Crew.

  • Ensures that response to noise complaints within the duty area (i.e.: the beach, pool, etc.) are handled in a timely and efficient manner; also ensures that all parties on the beach are randomly spot checked for violations of our liquor license (underaged drinking).

  • Ensures that all beach party set-ups have been properly signed for and that all guests have been properly registered and logged on the Beach Registration Log.

  • Assists with quarterly inventory of all equipment and supplies and the accuracy. Properly requests needed supplies in a timely manner.

  • Ensures that all equipment inventories are maintained at all times, and requests for towels to be cleaned and resupplied, as needed, during the shift.

  • Observes and reports any unusual occurrences and safety hazards (i.e.: wet floors, fire hazards, leaking water pipes, unsafe equipment, etc.). Ensures that the proper departments are notified of the hazard and/or occurrence and informs the Management team via E-mail, writes work orders, and or contacts the Dispatcher (ext. 2500).

  • Ensures that all shifts are properly staffed, determines the amount of staff needed throughout the season, and adjusts accordingly.

  • Assists with oversight of administration work and ensures the department keeps within the budget by properly scheduling personnel, conducting reviews and ordering needed supplies.

  • Assists with planning and attends regularly scheduled department meetings.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

OUTCOME

The cleanliness, safety, and security of the facilities will positively influence the guests and members perception of the total organization as friendly, helpful, professional and reliable. This perception will help maintain the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club as the premiere beach and tennis resort and club in San Diego.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises all employees in the Beach Services Department.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with departmental and company policies, procedures and applicable laws.

  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The education and/or experience needed include an Associates or higher degree; or one year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of both education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, Beach Registration Log, Beach Party Reservation Request forms. Ability to speak English effectively to guests, members or employees of the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

All employees in this position must obtain and maintain current Drivers License.

Must be outgoing and have ability to get along well with all types of individuals and people of all ages.

INTERACTION

Employees in this position have daily interaction with guests and members daily, as well as the following departments: Accounting, Membership, Front Desk, Executive Personnel, Engineering, Purchasing, Catering, Human Resources, Reservations, Group Sales, Housekeeping, Golf, and Massage Therapy.


SCHEDULING

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Shifts will generally be rotated, as much as possible to be fair to everyone. At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed shift if business or task assignments demand. In addition, it should be understood that business needs determine the number of hours that you work.
