SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The athletictrainer will be responsible for delivering athletic medical care and relatedservices to the student-athlete population at Hardin-Simmons University.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provision of athleticmedical care: Possess the theoretical and practical knowledge tobe able to practice independently in most situations as an Athletic Trainer.This includes but is not limited to clinical examination and diagnosis,therapeutic intervention, decisions regarding injury prevention and riskmanagement, and patient advocacy and mediation between physicians, athleticdepartment staff, and family members when necessary.
Compliance: Ensuring adherence to NCAA, American Southwest Conference, andHardin-Simmons University policies and procedures as they pertain to thepractice of athletic training within the college and university setting.
Organization andAdministration: Documents all patient encounters, assists withsubmission of qualifying secondary insurance claims, assists with verificationof primary insurance, completion and collection of medical forms each year, aswell as inventory and limited budgeting for supplies.
Communication: Thorough and frequent communication with fellow staff members,supervisors, physicians, coaches, patients, and family members of patients whenapplicable.
Clinical Education: Serving as a Clinical Preceptor to athletic training students in a CAATEaccredited Master of Athletic Training program.
Perform other duties as assigned by Director ofAthletic Training Services and/or Athletic Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise athletic training students and student-athletesin clinic and during practice/competition.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientificand technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries orcomplaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the businesscommunity. Ability to write speeches andarticles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Abilityto effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/orboards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, andvolume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to applyprinciples of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectualand practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas,scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficultphases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Toperform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of WordProcessing software; Spreadsheet software; Power Point; Electronic MedicalRecord Systems.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-yearcollege or university required.
Master's degree preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Board of Certification (BOC certification), possessor be eligible for athletic training licensure in the sate of Texas, CPR/AED forHealthcare Providers or Professional Rescuers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is anExempt Level Professional Position which often requires extended hours beyond a40-hour work week, especially during the peak season(s) for sports.
Candidate must be able to work non-traditional hours, including nights andweekends depending on the time of year.
There are afternoon practices during season and competitions and performancesin the afternoons and on weekends.
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and maintain a cleardriving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able todrive an automobile and 15-passenger van.
Must be able todrive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Additionaltravel may be required on occasion in order to attend training, etc.
