Job description

Summary:

The Asset Protection Specialist’s primary responsibility is to prevent the loss of Company assets while maintaining a safe retail business environment. With the usage of a variety of tools, the Asset Protection Specialist is responsible for monitoring the operational activities to ensure the safety and security of all Company assets, while investigating theft instances and fraud activities, to resolve shrink and financial loss. When a theft or loss has occurred, this position is responsible to conduct investigations, provide documentation and partner with law enforcement to build cases, towards resolution. This position supports the stores’ efforts in providing the best customer service within a safety-focused, controlled environment to ensure maximum sales and profitability. The Asset Protection Specialist will partner with Leaders and Team Members at all levels throughout the Company, along with interacting with law enforcement and other retail loss prevention teams in the community. This values-based position is a key component of the Safety & Asset Protection team, representing Friedman’s with a high level of integrity, honesty, and ethics, with a commitment to protect Company assets.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, conduct, and resolve cash theft, merchandise theft, fraudulent returns, and price swapping through external and internal investigations in compliance with Company policy and procedures under the direction and guidance of the Safety & Asset Protection Manager. This may include:
    • Video review
    • Incident documentation
    • Interviewing involved parties and gathering written statements
    • Preparing investigation report
  • Drive a Theft Prevention culture by implementing action plans of Asset Protection leadership to reduce shortage by improving processes and merchandise protection standards.
  • Conduct regular and routine Asset Protection audits in accordance with SOPs, ensuring activities comply with state and local statutes.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and drive sales and profitability by ensuring a safe and secure store environment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Team Members, Company leaders, local law enforcement and the community while helping to establish Friedman’s safety culture and building upon theft prevention efforts.
  • Ensure Team Members are focused on achieving the shortage goal through customer service, merchandise protection, and awareness.
  • Regularly partner with Safety & Asset Protection Manager, Human Resources and Training Team to create, communicate, implement, and routinely analyze initiatives and strategies.
  • Partner with departments to support all locations in implementing shortage and theft awareness programs and advising management of any unusual activity utilizing various reporting methods.
  • Model safe behaviors always, while upholding a strong Theft Prevention culture.
  • Assess potential security threats and respond accordingly to minimize risks.
  • Maintain professionalism and follow protocol when responding to incidents as necessary.
  • Present information and findings to Team Members at all levels and locations.
  • Assist with special projects, reporting and other duties as assigned.


Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree or related coursework in criminal justice, security management and/or environmental safety from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years Asset Protection or prior experience within Law Enforcement, that includes specialized training or education of the California Penal Code.
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required qualifications and skills are acceptable.

  • Independent self-starter with excellent customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records in various systems.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as radios, surveillance equipment, sensors scanners and removers, and telephone.
  • Ability to place and move cameras within locations.


Work Environment:

  • Work environment will be primarily stationed at the Santa Rosa Retail store location. This is a full-time position, which typically has 5-day 40 hour a week schedule. Because this position supports retail operations, retail hours availability with the ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary is required.
  • This position requires frequent travel to Friedman’s retail store locations, Distribution Center, and Headquarters offices within the Northern California region.
