On-site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis


The Role:

As a Assembly Launch Lead, you will have supervisory responsibility for a group of employees in the implementation and execution of the established business process for assembly operations and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation while in active launch periods with new product. Work is of a technical and autonomous nature using independent judgment within the limits of and focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Possess the ability to deal with complex problems. May manage across multiple shifts.

What You'll Do:

In this position, you will maintain awareness of SPQRCE standards, and communicate department goals, and leverages resources to solve issues. You will build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union and management, and understand to consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.

  • Responsible for setting up processes for new assembly shop to include planning and implementation, installation, trials and final ramp-up
  • Provide feedback on assembly process and product design
  • Participate in the selection of new employees and trains, develops and evaluates salaried and hourly employees, and the development of highly effective teams
  • Leads Global Manufacturing Systems(GMS) processes across multiple departments and serves as lead resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas
  • Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.
  • Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods
  • Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities
  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training)
  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements
  • Recommend Union changes to improve operations
  • Help facilitate transition between new existing site

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR Business Manager or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous usage of APS (assembly process systems)
  • Experience enforcing MPMs
  • Experience with TIP and complex problem solving
