- Completes training topics (e.g. Product Blending Tank Farm, Diesel and Heavy Oils Railcar Loading) by reading documents, observing procedures, Active Learner Module and FOR School.
- Prepares for emergency situations (e.g. tank overflow, underground pipe leak) by shutting down valves and pumps to stop all product flow, pumping product out of tanks, and notifying Lead Tech.
- Prioritizes the blending and loading processes by using the "Daily Operating Instructions" (DOI) and/or daily loading schedules -reviewing categorized information (e.g. rundowns, blending requirements, loading comments).
- Collects blend samples for testing (e.g. if gauge goes out or spec is "tight") by turning bleeder valves, or lowering containers into tanks, then properly tagging and sending to laboratory.
- Checks product quality in rail car, truck, or tank by collecting lab samples using best practice sampling method, and visually looking for clarity and impurities.
- Inspects equipment (e.g. pumps and tanks) by checking pressure gauges, oil levels, temperatures, and looking for leaks.
- Inspects vehicle, prior to loading product, for cleanliness or damage, by observing for one wheel chocked, no leaks in body of trailer, ground cable secured, as per DOT HM126.
- Checks lineups to verify correctness by walking and observing positions of valves, and verifying flow of product from and to destinations.
- Loads tank cars and tank trucks with product (e.g. No. 2 Fuel Oil, Base Oils, Blended Oils, VTB, FLUX, Decant) by inserting loading arm or attaching hoses, then opens valves.
- Monitors tank trucks for legal level (weight by using scales).
- Secures domes and caps on tank cars by using hand tools (e.g. wrenches, pneumatic tools).
- Provides an on-time switch list daily for the transportation department and switch crew by email.
- Sets equipment controls to produce the required qualities and quantities of product by analyzing specifications, schedules, logs, test results, and laboratory recommendations.
- Monitors progress of blending operations by recording temperatures and levels to insure correct amount of product is pumped.
- Prepares line ups for pumping by identifying where product rundown is being saved, then calculating product blend amount to be pumped, and checking gauges to determine correct level.
- Detects leaks by walking flow lines, making visual inspections of valves, and using gas monitor.
- Prepares equipment for maintenance by following lockout tag out procedures (e.g. shutting down using power controls and breaker boxes, blocking lines, and isolating equipment).
- Makes minor repairs (e.g. tightens packing, greases pump motors, fixes leaks) by using small hand tools such as wrenches, grease guns.
- Reports all operational and equipment problems (e.g. seal leaking) to the supervisor for submitting a maintenance work request.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
