The Children's Museum has an opening for an Art Studio Coordinator who will serve as the Museum content expert in Arts Education. The position will deliver mission aligned, process-focused experiences and arts programming that will nurture imagination, open-ended exploration and creativity in all our guests. The Coordinator, alongside the leadership of the Art Studio Specialists, will create a welcoming environment for play while providing exceptional guest service and leading the operations of the space.
 

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, including at least one weekend day with additional hours as needed, including occasional evenings, holidays and events

  

Rate:  $21.15/hr-22.40/hr, (additional $1/hour for bilingual proficiency)

  • Advance the Museums mission by developing and implementing a robust calendar of activities, open-ended facilitation experiences and programs for The Art Studio
  • Develop and oversee systems for all operations of the Art Studio to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for guests.
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory of studio materials, programming and staff schedules.
  • Hire, train and supervise a team of Art Studio Specialists and provide leadership to envision, develop and facilitate art-related programming and operational experiences in alignment with the Museum's mission and programming framework.
  • Coordinate roles and responsibilities of Education Department staff scheduled in the Art Studio
  • Exercise an innovative approach to program and content development to contribute to our goal of offering unique experiences to our guests.
  • Model and lead best practices and expectations in art facilitation, operations and guest service for all staff and volunteers in the space.
  • Develop and deliver fee-based programming to diverse audiences to meet revenue goals.
  • Oversee revenue and operating expense budgets of the Art Studio
  • Develop and implement systems to collect and track all data related to attendance and evaluation for the art programming for use in grant reporting, evaluation and other documents. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing team to communicate program and exhibit offerings and to enhance public awareness of the experience. 
  • Document program and studio experiences and art-making processes. Collaborate with Senior Manager of Public Programs and Director of Education to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the exhibit and programs. 
  • Maintain and expand the "Artist in Residence" program. Coordinate and oversee artists requests for proposals (RFP) and recruitment process, artist interviews, selection and training, stipends and budget, and facilitation of open studio hours.
  • Collaborate with the Exhibits Department on installation of Artist in Residence leave behind pieces. 
  • Develop and deliver specialized programming for special events, adult-only nights, fundraisers, etc. 
  • Cross-train to support other exhibit spaces and programming as needed.
  • Develop and maintain systems of organization in the clay studio and kiln room. Support all kiln firing, including scheduling, loading, unloading, and sorting of artwork.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Fluent English proficiency, strong writing, and public speaking skills
  • Spanish speaking and comprehension skills strongly desired
  • BA degree in Art Education or similar training and experience in related field
  • Minimum one year supervisory, leadership or mentorship responsibilities
  • Minimum two years of experience in art education, planning and/or facilitating process-based educational experiences for children and families
  • Minimum one year of experience in customer service, hospitality or the service industry or a related field. 
  • Strong commitment to the Museum's mission, vision and values of diversity, equity, access and inclusion
