Merrick, Inc. is seeking a part-time or independent contractor to lead instruction in art, painting, pottery, and/or sewing in our multiple studios within our Life Enrichment center. This position would be working with adults with disabilities in our studios to focus on art, painting, pottery, and sewing-based projects three to five days a week, 9-15 hours per week. The Sewing Instructor will encourage clients to create, be engaged, and uncover their skills and abilities.
This position can be part-time employment or an independent contractor. The pay will change based on which one you are interested in.
The sessions will be three-five days per week, each session is 2 hours long, 9:00 am - 11:00 am. We would recommend starting before 9:00 am for prep and cleaning up after the session. Each day you work would be 2-3 hours. Three to five days per week, you pick the days, Monday-Friday!
Merrick, Inc. is looking for one person per class or one person to teach all the classes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead sessions to meet the needs of the group of clients that are effective, educational, engaging, and fun.
- Provide guidance to the clients and their Direct Support Professionals who are assigned to each group of clients.
- Gather supply lists each week for the sessions for the following week.
- Maintain curriculum records for sessions to be completed in the future.
- Maintain communication with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director(s) regarding any program or class needs.
Qualifications:
- A passion for art, teaching, and working with adults with disabilities.
- Previous experience and knowledge of sewing and looms.
- Reliable transportation.
- Experience of working with adults with disabilities is preferred.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check following a conditional job offer.
