Job description

Maintain the archival processes of the Opry Entertainment Group (OEG) photography collection. This includes the accession, conservation, preservation, arrangement, cataloging, digitization and accessibility of the collection, ensuring these collections accurately represent the rich heritage of OEG. Support the ongoing survey, accessioning, rehousing, and descriptive cataloging of existing and incoming archival assets and artifact collections, brand history and artist research, the curation of exhibits, maintenance of data standards for cataloging, and the coordination of special projects. Reports to Manager of Archives.
  • Maintain systems for collection, archive and access of photography across all OEG venues.
  • Organize, digitize, and catalog photographs using scanning equipment and digital content management systems. Ensure best practices for archival standards for digital and analog images, including accurate metadata for photographs, slides, transparencies and born-digital files.
  • Provide access to photograph collection for internal and external use, maximizing revenue opportunities through licensing. Provide insight into copyright matters relating to the use of photography.
  • Support projects related to accessioning, rehousing, and cataloging of existing and incoming archival assets.
  • Provide professional-level Photoshop restoration of images.
  • Contribute to planning, design, oversight, and reporting for archiving initiatives, exhibits and projects. Select and edit photographs and resources for publication and display according to familiarity with archives.
  • Conduct research into photographs and records, providing an interpretation of brand history, country music history, and other related subjects in both physical and digital collections.
  • Support image digitization and photography projects completed by vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education
  • Degree in Archival Management, Library Science, Museum Studies, or a related, applicable field of study preferred
Experience
  • 3+ years experience processing and cataloging professional archival collections
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to apply effective metadata standards and schema for descriptive, structural and
    preservation metadata for images and artifacts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archiving standards and best practices, including identification and care of still and moving image materials, digitization protocol and formats, and methodology for handling both archival and artifact collections
  • Knowledge of photographic copyright law
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to take ownership of projects
  • Background or interest in country music history strongly preferred
  • Experience with Past Perfect, Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite
