Job description

Science Friday seeks an archival assistant who will act as our lead administrator on a special archive project conducted in tandem with WGBH and the American Archive of Public Broadcasting. This temporary, hourly position will be responsible for conducting a thorough inventory of archival materials, including proper metadata entry, overall data quality assurance, creating, packaging and shipping archival materials to partners at WGBH, and documenting an SOP for further internal updates to the dataset. At the conclusion of this work, this position will be responsible for educating Science Friday staff on utilizing the created resources and authoring a digital article about the project for the Science Friday website.

Scope of Work:
80-120 Hours

Timeline
Feb 1: Interviewing Candidates
Feb 19: Anticipated Start Date
Feb 20-March 31: Initial Inventory Mapped, Inventory Quality Assurance Check
April 15: Packaging and shipping Inventory to Project Partners
April 15-30: Documentation of SOP for future SciFri Staff, article drafting begins
May 1st: Staff education session on Archival Documentation
May 6th: Draft of article due to Senior Editor, Digital, incorporate feedback and edits into final draft
May 15th: Final draft of article due

Compensation
This is an hourly contract position with an available rate of $50/hr up to 120 hours. This is a temporary position without benefits.The incumbent Archive Assistant will provide weekly invoices to Science Friday and be paid through Bill.com, our vendor payment system.

Location/On-Site Status
The candidate must be located in the Greater New York City area or have the ability to travel to our office in the Financial District where our archival materials are located. Relocation and travel assistance are not available for this role. Portions of this work may be able to be completed remotely.

Preferred Experience
-Prior experience in archival or library records management
-Data entry/management experience
-Background in audio archival work
-Interest in Science Journalism
-Background in Documentation and generating SOPs for other team members
-Pursuing or completed a degree in Library Sciences, Journalism, Science Communications, Audio Engineering
-Prior experience writing digital content for external audiences.
