SalaryJOB SUMMARY: Under leadership of the Biology Supervisor, the Dietary Technician will be responsible for the preparation of animal feeds, and will assist aquarium quarantine staff with daily tasks. This is a part-time position, hourly position generally expected to work at least one weekend day with some nights and holidays required.
**This is a safety sensitive position and as such, use of medical marijuana is not permitted.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
•Prepare animal diets as instructed by supervisors.
•Assist with the daily operation of public feed stands in the aquarium.
•Communicate with supervisor to maintain stocking of food, and supplies.
•Communicate with department members and supervisors the needs and issues relating to animals and systems and work with them to resolve any problems.
•Report any mechanical or animal problem to supervisor in a timely manner.
•Keep work area clean and organized.
•Complete appropriate logs for animal health, movements, acquisitions/dispositions, mortalities and water usage.
•Interact with the public during educational shows and through general questions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
•Ability to handle all types of seafood.
•High degree of concentration and attention to detail.
•Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals and follow safety protocols.
•Good record keeping skills.
•Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
•The ability to lift 50lbs and work on ones feet for long periods of time in adverse conditions (climb ladders, cramped spaces, cold water, wet environment).
•Comfortable working with kitchen knives.
•Familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
•Schedule may include weekends and holidays with 24-hour availability, seven days a week for emergencies.
•Demonstrate professionalism at all times.
•Other job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or GED, required.
- Some college level biology, chemistry or natural sciences studies preferred.
- Ability to make change and complete a cash transaction.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The duties of the Part-time Laborer III/Dietary Technician will be performed inside and outside of the Oklahoma Aquarium. The Part-time Laborer III/Dietary Technician must possess the ability to stand/work for long periods of time in adverse conditions (cramped spaces, cold water, and wet environment). Work environment is team oriented, having variable tasks, pace, and pressure.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an aquatic setting. Continuous standing, with upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity; light to moderate finger pressure to manipulate keyboard, equipment controls, and equipment; pinch grasp to manipulate writing utensils. Frequent side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting at waist. Frequent squatting, kneeling, and reaching
above and at shoulder height; moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals. Frequent lifting of 60 pounds while working in adverse conditions (cramped spaces, cold water and wet environment).
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
