Responsibilities

Ascension Seton is looking for an APRN or PA for our Child Abuse Resource and Education program.

 

The CARE Program serves as the clinical consult service for Child Abuse pediatrics at Dell Children’s Medical Center. The CARE team provides medical and psychosocial assessments of children that abuse and/or neglect is suspected. The team evaluates for a broad spectrum of child maltreatment, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, medical Child Abuse, and various types of neglect. The team’s goals are to ensure that children are safe and healthy and that child maltreatment is identified and managed appropriately.

The CARE program interfaces with multiple clinical specialists (psychology, radiology, and other pediatric subspecialties) as well as non-medical community partners such as the legal system, law enforcement, and CPS to provide comprehensive care of children who may be abused or neglected.

 

Position Highlights:

  • Hybrid/ability to work from home

  • This position is a mix of npatient and outpatient 
  • Other locations include - Dell Children's North, Strictly Pediatrics, and Center for Child Protection
  • Frequent retreats/mental health check ins

 

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy
Requirements

Nurse Practitioner

Required Credential(s):

  • Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing.

Preferred Credential(s):

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Education:

  • Master's degree of Nursing required

Physician Assistant

Required Credential(s):

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Licensed Physician Assistant credentialed from the Texas Medical Board.
  • Certified Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of PhysicianAssistants (NCCPA).

Preferred Credential(s):

  • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Master's degree preferred

Work Experience for both APRN and PA:

 

  • Preferred background in Child Abuse, PEM, PICU, or primary care
Additional Preferences
  • Good public speaking skills (court testimony and frequent topical presentations are part of job)

  • Emotional intelligence/self-awareness needed for difficult cases/topics

  • Lots of time spent writing detailed notes

  • Some times subpoenaed to testify

  • Integral part of a much larger multidisciplinary team focused on justice and advocacy for children

  • Opportunities to participate in research
