Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative (JPEC) is seeking an Apprentice Line Technician to join our team. Ideal candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and be dependable.
This position constructs and maintains underground and overhead electrical lines and performs related tasks of new construction on secondary under 600 volts and de-energized lines. No primary. At the appropriate apprentice level, performs various duties including meter reading, making service changes, troubleshooting service outages, disconnecting and connecting services, voltage testing and locating underground. Performs manual labor-type tasks as assigned by Crew Leader such as cleaning truck, loading material, digging ditches, tamping, cutting brush and moving materials. Performs related duties to line construction which includes accounting for materials used, stocking trucks, loading and unloading materials, and inspecting distribution and transmission lines for necessary maintenance. Sets and removes barricades, flags, signs and flares. Flags traffic. Ensures that assigned vehicles, tools and equipment are operated in accordance with all rules and regulations and are in good and safe working condition. Operates vehicles and other heavy equipment as directed; obeying safety rules and regulations. Completes training courses and passes tests, as required, to progress through the apprenticeship program.
Ability to communicate verbally with members in a courteous manner. Climb poles up to 55 feet or more, lift and transport up to 75lbs. Performs work in weather conditions including cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Must be able to work overtime, extended hours beyond normal shift and during emergencies (e.g. evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.) and be on call for work in all weather conditions including emergencies.
Successful candidate must live within a 30-mile radius to JPEC, maintain good attendance/punctuality record, travel, and participate in designated training programs when necessary.
Education/Experience Requirements:
· Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, required.
· Completed at least two-years in a JPEC recognized apprenticeship program, preferred.
· Must have a valid Class-A commercial driver’s license.
