Department:  APPRAISER

Pay:  $15.75 per hour  

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Provides support to the Real and Personal Property divisions of the Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office to fairly and equitably produce an annual appraisal roll to fund quality public services in our community.

 

Effectively, efficiently, and safely operate county equipment to capture updated street level images of all improved parcels of Sedgwick County for various annual appraisal processes.

  • Safely drive county vehicle throughout Sedgwick County.
  • Efficiently navigate to area of county to complete assignment.
  • Capture street level images of all improved parcels in Sedgwick County over six years as assigned.
  • Accurately associate image to correct parcel.
  • Work in a team environment professionally.
  • Mark parcels for review for New Construction, Physical Condition, Sale, etc.

 

Develop appraised value for reported and non-reported Personal Property using mass appraisal tools and techniques.

  • Research, analyze and interpret personal property renditions, including trucks/trailers, watercraft, and other individual personal property. Make complex and varied arithmetic computations and calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Work personal property renditions for changes to assets and ownership information.
  • Complete new-setup and discovery for personal property not previously listed or transferred.
  • Assist in mass mailing address update project.

 

Data collection and Orion database maintenance of residential real property characteristics

  • Performs review of property characteristics for maintenance cycle using imaging technologies. These characteristics include but are not limited to: Address, land use and type, property factors, dwelling information, sketching of improvements, and the collection/verification of all other associated residential building characteristics.
  • Indicate parcels that must be reviewed in field for varying reasons.

 

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of customer service experience in a professional office setting or administrative support. Must successfully complete and pass the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). Course 101 – Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal with in two (2) years of hire date. Must have a properly registered and licensed vehicle to use on a daily basis. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid U.S. driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, or Real Estate. At least two (2) years of actual work experience in property taxation, experience working with the public, or any equivalent training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. License, certifications, etc…   Has successfully completed the International Association of Assessing Officer’s (IAAO) Course 101 Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal. Successfully complete IAAO Course 102 - Income Approach Valuation within two (2) years of hire date.
