Under direction of the school principal, the ESOL teacher, plans for and provides English language instruction for students who have been identified through the ESOL Entry/Exit Criteria as being limited English proficient (LEP). Articulates with administrators, counselors, teachers and other school staff about individual LEP students and their needs.
CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Holds Maryland teacher certification in ESOL
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of second language teaching/learning methods and techniques. Considerable knowledge of English structure, usage and levels of style. Ability to work effectively with administrators, counselors and other school staff in organizing and implementing the ESOL/Bilingual program. Fluency in another language, in addition to English, preferred. Sensitivity to students from other cultures. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Completion of MCPS Secondary Teacher Test.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
