About the Department:

The College of Veterinary Medicine’s (CVM) Computing Resources unit is responsible for addressing the diverse IT needs for the CVM as a whole—this includes the Veterinary Hospital, Research areas, departments, as well as academic classroom support.
The current scope includes all faculty, staff, students, researchers, and administrators across the CVM. The Computing Resources Team must ensure the CVM is capable of successfully embracing the latest technologies and tools while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of all IT processes and data.

Essential Job Duties:

This position serves as an integral and effective IT liaison between the College’s academic and student support units and computing resources.
This role is instrumental in the construction of an academic data warehouse (DW) for the college that will provide CVM administration, faculty, staff, and students access to comprehensive student lifecycle data (curriculum info, grades, focus area selections, clinical competency tracking, etc.). Accordingly, the incumbent must provide expertise specific to the development of a useful academic data warehouse for the CVM. This requires knowledge specific to API development including Oracle/MySQL databases, and presentation layer analytics dashboards using tools such as Tableau or Sisense.
The successful incumbent will consult with key stakeholders across core academic CVM business units to determine their application requirements, propose viable solutions, and actively incorporate client feedback to ensure essential application requirements are satisfied and result in valuable customer deliverables for all DVM applications and the CVM data warehouse. The chosen incumbent will influence the Academic Technology Roadmap for the CVM and ensure that it aligns with the overall CVMIT infrastructure technology roadmap and service catalog.

Programming duties will primarily involve customizations required to campus learning management system (LMS) tools for the CVM to better align with mandated student lifecycle requirements as set forth by the applicable regulating bodies (e.g. AVMA) as well as API development for many of the campus/external data feeds for the DW. Candidate must have an ability to integrate web applications with a variety of backend database systems (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server).
Collaboration will also be required with the NCSU Distance Education & Learning Activities (DELTA) unit, OIT, Registration & Records, OIRP, DASA, and 3rd party educational software vendors to better address the requirements for all academically focused initiatives across the CVM.

Other Responsibilities:

Must effectively and clearly articulate ongoing strategic educational project initiatives—both verbally and in writing while collaborating with multiple CVM and University departments/units (e.g., Student Services, Educational Support Services, CVM IT, Academic Affairs, Campus IT and CVM Administration).
Independently analyzes, assess and recommends various DVM educational application enhancement solutions/updates and collaborates with the CVM IT AppDev Team for implementation. Collaborates heavily with Director/Manager level staff across CVM academic units and frequently interacts with 3rd party educational business/IT partners and account managers.
