Appliance Repair Technician II - Small Equipment

Position Purpose
Inventories, repairs, and replaces electric motors and floor care equipment throughout the District.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Services and repairs AC powered equipment including: vacuums, buffers, burnishers, dehumidifiers, pitching machines, power tools, fans, and others.
  • Services and repairs DC powered equipment including: scrubbers, golf carts, blowers, trimmers, foggers, sprayers, power tools, pallet trucks, and others.
  • Services and repairs propane powered burnishers.
  • Services and repairs wheels and casters including: hand-trucks, dollies, batting cages, manual pallet trucks, tilt trucks, janitor carts, and others.
  • Marks and inventories equipment to be assigned to campuses and facilities.
  • Completes work orders and keeps records of labor and parts used.
  • Assists Mechanics with lawn equipment repairs when needed.
  • Maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices, standard methods, materials, and tools used in the repair of appliances and tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes.
  • Skill in estimating and calculating amount of materials needed, and tracking inventory.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Skill in managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, service manuals, wiring diagram schematics, and other written material relating to installation and repairs.
  • Ability to write and prepare work descriptions, notes, instructions, and basic reports.
  • Ability to find and correct defects in electrical appliances; ability to read electrical wiring diagrams to repair or maintain appliances.
  • Ability to use software to access databases, status work assignments, work with email, and for basic computing and communicating.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals such as hand-held devices; small hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; dollies and hand trucks; light truck or van.
  • Posture: Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, high degree of physical dexterity and ability to perform work requiring considerable standing and bending; frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
  • Lifting: Daily heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over).
  • Exerting: Occasional heavy pushing/pulling and exerting to move over 100 pounds of distributed weight, often with hand trucks and/or the assistance of other employees.
  • Environment: Works outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; works around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly works irregular hours; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours on short notice; occasional unscheduled overtime to protect District property due to power outage, equipment malfunction, or as needed.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
  • Emergency Response: Responds to emergency work requests.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • Certification/License:
    • Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required;
    • Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required;
    • Valid Journeyman Electrician License or Maintenance Electrician License preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years' repairing floor equipment and/or appliances.

INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.
  • Driving and accident record:
  • Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations http://dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/driverrecords.htm
    • NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:
      • moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);
      • failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;
      • equipment violations.
    • NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.
    • NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).
    • NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
    • NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.
    • NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
    • NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.
    • NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).
    • NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
    • NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.
    • NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.
  • Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
