SUMMARY:
The API Engineer is part of our engineering and developer-to-developer support team that maintains our customer-facing web service that has over 20 million calls to it per month. The API Engineer is responsible to the maintenance and enhancement of the Brink POS product in all areas that the API calls enter and exit through. The ability to debug is an essential asset in this role and communication with a variety of people from developers to product owners is extremely useful. This role is a key essential part of the organization, an entryway into the path of development/management/product roles, and influential to the cloud path PAR will take.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position is $56,000 to $75,000 USD per year commensurate with work location, experience, skills, certifications, education, and prior accomplishments.

The position may be eligible for additional compensation, including a bonus, commission and/or equity, as applicable.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Acquire an in-depth understanding of the API, including staying apprised of updates
  • Ability to debug several solutions in a variety of languages but primarily C#/.NET
  • Analyze areas of improvement in the code for performance and speed for the API and Register codebase
  • Deep dive into customer asks via email and on-the-fly debug production issues, including appropriate follow-up
  • Generate code samples to provide to customers to assist with their integration efforts
  • Document bugs as they come and solution fixes to said bugs from low to high priority
  • Identify needed documentation improvements and work with the Development and Documentation Teams to get them made
  • Assist customers in troubleshooting issues with their integration code
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Team in their API testing efforts
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality concerning PAR and customer's information

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in computer science/Engineering or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in the software industry
  • Strong service skills as you'll be interacting directly with our integrators and developers who work for our customers
  • Experience in debugging OOP code, beneficial if .NET or C#
  • Experience integrating with SOAP and REST API's
  • Ability to debug into several different solutions that span different architecture from front-end to back-end
  • Experience providing a technical level of support in the software or technology space
  • Adaptability when new frameworks come up and new areas of code arises
  • Ability to understand and produce code in a variety of popular programming languages, including C#
  • Ability to learn new programming languages independently and quickly
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • Proactive communication style, ability to question, clarify and document
  • Strong written, oral and visual communication skills
  • Strong analysis skills and the ability to synthesize multiple perspectives
  • A forward thinker with strong business sense
  • A pragmatic approach to solving problems with off the shelf tools
  • Ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines
  • Self-starter who requires minimal supervision
