NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

To assist the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation or their designee in the development, implementation and coordination of the district's curriculum in specific areas. To provide the leadership and expertise needed to make the teaching department most effective in its positive influence on each student.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Supervisor of Instruction shall:
  1. Have a Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Hold a supervisor certificate.
  3. Have at least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  4. Graduate work in education in the areas of staff and curriculum development and/or instructional practice preferred.
  5. Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills;
  6. Experience providing professional development to classroom teachers;
  7. Interpersonal skills (communication, technology, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring, and coaches;
  8. Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the board may find appropriate, acceptable and comply with New Jersey Law.
  9. Experience in staff development and curriculum development review.
  10. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3- 4A.4.
  11. Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  12. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent may deem appropriate, acceptable, and legal.

VERIFICATIONS OF COMPETENCY:
  1. District application and/or resume.
  2. Required documentation outlined in the qualifications above.
  3. A minimum of three references from former employers, teachers, professors or other professional sources, or copies of recent evaluations and observations of teaching performance.
  4. Employment interview.
  5. Official college transcripts.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
Supervisor of Instruction shall be employed under the following terms:
1. Ten months with stipend and equivalent of 10-month administrative work schedule
2. May teach a minimum of 2 classroom periods or equivalent pursuant to contract.
3. Conditions established by laws and codes of the State, and policies, rules, and regulations
established by the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. 18A:27-4 et. Seq.).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Supervisor of Instruction shall:
  1. Fulfill all obligations related to, but not limited to, the following
    1. Lessons Plans
    2. Gradebooks
    3. PDPs, SGOs/SGPs
    4. Observations, walkthroughs, summative evaluations and pre- and post-observations conference forms
    5. Assist with facilitation of Benchmark Assessments, Mid-terms and Final exams
    6. Updates to Curriculum Web-based platforms, Instructional and Digital platforms
    7. Survey completion, data collection and analysis
  2. Analyzes class and grade level data in content as assigned for the purpose of sharing information with teachers and making informed decisions relative to instructional practices.
  3. Works collaboratively with school staff, including BSI, ELL teachers, and both general and special education staff members to evaluate the progress of the identified students.
  4. Assesses skills and needs (both initially and ongoing) of teachers for the purpose of determining the kinds of professional development and strategies needed to bring about student achievement and gains in value added scores.
  5. Leads and participates in on-going and job-embedded professional development (e.g. meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information related to math content knowledge, pedagogy, and coaching.
  6. Mentors and coaches peer teachers for the purpose of improving instruction and building capacity to teach teaching staff members.
  7. Facilitates group discussion in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and analyzes situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Uses a variety of written materials (e.g. lesson plans, pacing guides, scope and sequence guides, classroom materials, reports, etc.) for the purpose of modeling best practices in math instruction, documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  8. Assists with lesson plans, in collaboration with principals. For the purposes of differentiating instruction and adhering to scope and sequence guides and district curriculum.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and functioning of the work unit.
  10. Visits classrooms on a regular basis to support and provide feedback to teachers to improve instructional practices through the reflective cycle.
  11. Assists Instructional Coaches to assist teachers on the use of assessment data including supporting quality assessment, interpretation of data and use of assessment data in planning.
  12. Uses assessment data and results of class visits to determine and support a high level of curriculum implementation.
  13. Provides individualized follow-up support to the teacher's level of development and plan small group meetings/trainings for teachers with similar needs.
  14. Reflects on their own professional development needs, attend workshops, read research articles, consult with others, etc.
  15. Models expert teaching practices, culturally proficient and anti-racist teaching, and provides feedback for improving teaching.
  16. Provides technical assistance to district and provider administrators to discuss curriculum goals, professional development, and assessment data.
  17. Provides support for teachers, including: theory underlying instruction, demonstration and modeling of Instructional practices, informal observation and feedback related to the implementation of lessons, and support of collaboration and inquiry among teachers.
  18. Ensures that the State Standards are integrated throughout the curriculum.
  19. Facilitates PLC meetings related to instructional practice, assessment, and curriculum design.
  20. Assists teachers in examining student work and assessment data to provide information for instructional decision-making based on student needs.
  21. Discusses pre-service and in-service education training in assigned curricular area with the teaching department.
  22. Assists in the selection of textbooks and instructional resources.
  23. Communicates information regarding the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum and instructional programs/services.
  24. Assists in the evaluation of student programs.
  25. Oversees the development and implementation of resource files in assigned areas with the teaching department.
  26. Monitors units of study with the teaching staff.
  27. Interprets board of education policies and regulations to the teaching department.
  28. Facilitates discussion on the creation and development of special curriculum materials with the teaching staff.
  29. Monitors instructional strategies and that they are focused to an individualized approach to the learning problems and students served by the department.
  30. Oversees the training of new instructional methods and materials.
  31. Meets periodically with administration to discuss new materials and programs, evaluate present programs, and consider problems of mutual concern.
  32. Attends pertinent conferences and conventions at the direction of the Director of Curriculum.
  33. Performs observations of teacher performance in the evaluation process.
  34. Meets weekly with Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation to regarding the instructional practices, programs, assessment, and curriculum design.
  35. Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of determining success of Instructional needs. All materials will be submitted monthly to Director of Curriculum, Director of Special Services, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent on the last Friday of every month, for review and evaluation.
  36. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may, from time to time be assigned by the Director of Curriculum, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools.
