Great opportunity for professionals with an Animal Science, Agriculture, or a closely related Bachelor's degree interested in working in the U.S. on a TN Visa. Only citizens of Canada and Mexico are eligible for the TN Visa program.


SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Hog Caretaker/Animal Scientist is a position specializing in hog care. Therefore, this position involves working in an agricultural environment with continuous hands-on interaction with hogs and regular structured routines.
Job Duties:

" Ensure animals are receiving quality animal treatment.
" Daily observation of hogs
" Working and taking care of hogs
" Monitor and assist with feeding and watering of hogs.
" Performing daily chores for hog confinements
" Perform general facility cleaning, disinfecting, maintenance, and upkeep of hogs and their confinement buildings.
" Unload piglets, as well as sort and load hogs for transportation
" Assist with the recording and maintaining of accurate production records and documentation.
" Sorting and loading pigs for the market.
" Perform routine and seasonal vaccinations and injections.
" Perform euthanasia if needed to relieve the pain and suffering of sick hogs.
" Driving heavy equipment with various implements such as skid loaders and tractors
" Ensuring equipment is effective and efficient.
" Prepare and perform the disinfection process, abiding by the safety protocols to ensure the equipment is in efficient working order.
" Power wash facilities following the cleaning and disinfecting processes.
" Groundskeeping
" Follow the farm's biosecurity at all times.

Travel

Some positions require travel to additional barn location(s) to complete the essential functions described above. Travel is primarily local and occurs during the employee's regular shift.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee has constant exposure to dust, animal dander, and odor. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees stand and walk on concrete for most of their shifts. Seasonally, the employee is exposed to various extreme conditions within the barn, including heat and humidity.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) weight of up to 50 pounds. Position requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently required, for extended periods, to stand, walk, stoop, reach with hands and arms, kneel, bend at the waist, climb, perform repetitive motions, and communicate.

Requirements and Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree and cedula
2. English speaking
3. Respect and care for animals.
4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
5. Regular and consistent attendance.
6. For positions that require travel to another barn location(s), a valid driver's license and insurable driving record is required.
7. Must attain TQA and PQA+ certification within the first sixty (60) days of employment. Thereafter, must maintain TQA and PQA+ certification status.

Preferred Experience
Previous experience with hogs.
