The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptionalquality animal care and technical support services for animal researchperformed at the National Cancer Institute at the Frederick National Laboratoryfor Cancer Research. LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrumof state-of-the-art technologies and services that are focused on the design,generation, characterization and application of genetically engineered andbiological animal models of human disease, which are aimed at the developmentof targeted diagnostics and therapies. LASP contributes to advancing humanhealth, developing new treatments, and improving existing treatments for cancerand other diseases while ensuring safe and humane treatment of animals.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Feedingand housing of laboratory animals including nonhuman primates and rodents
- Generallaboratory animal housekeeping
- Cagecleaning, changing and sanitation
- Providingoccupational, structure, social and edible enrichment to ensure animalwell-being
- Cleaningtasks associated with the upkeep of a research animal facility
- Orderingand stocking supplies
- Keepingsimple records
- Utilizingcomputer skills for email, training, and basic data entry
- Operateautomatic washing and cleaning equipment
- Collectinghair, fecal and blood samples for diagnostic testing
- Workschedule will include rotating weekend and holiday hours
- Workmay involve the use of potentially hazardous material, including biological andchemical carcinogen or radiological materials or may be located in areas wheresuch materials are used, require the use of personal protective equipment andadherence to strict safety protocol.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Requiresan 8th grade education or higher
- Inaddition to education requirements, a minimum of five (5) years job-relatedanimal care experience
- RequiresALAT certification
- Abilityto handle a variety of laboratory animals including non-human primates
- Abilityto keep accurate basic records
- Abilityto operate automatic washing and cleaning equipment
- Abilityto lift to 40-50 lbs. and wear respiratory protective equipment if necessary
- Knowledgeof routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

- This position may require continuous or intermittent exposure to and exertion in environmental conditions such as working outdoors, temperature extremes, humidity extremes. etc. as part of the job
