The News Anchor/Reporter must be completely fluent in Spanish (written/spoken). He/she will anchor 5pm and 10pm newscast, write and contribute editorially to day to day production of newscast. Report on an as needed basis either for day to day stories, special projects, investigations, interviews and explainers. Strong live reporting, adlibbing, simultaneous translation from English to Spanish a must.
ABOUT YOU:
In addition to tracking down story leads, the News Anchor/Reporter produces/writes news stories and special projects with minimal or no supervision. The News Anchor/Reporter is responsible for making decisions that are sound and legal within the context of journalism in order to present an accurate and balanced report while taking into consideration the delivery medium and his/her audience. The News Anchor/Reporter is also responsible for ad libbing information during developing news or breaking news situations. Strong reporter and anchoring background as well as political journalism knowledge in the United States.
YOUR DAY-DAY:
- Editorial involvement in process of production, writing and execution of newscast.
- News Anchors/Reporters are responsible for gathering, researching, and writing news stories, which can be posted "on-line" and/or for use on a web-based medium on either the company's website/social media or streaming or any other UCI subsidiaries.
- Establish and maintain news contacts in the community.
- Anchor 5pm and 10pm newscast.
- Produce and report investigations, series, specials, and documentaries as needed.
- Contribute content to the various multiplatform for Univision Chicago
- Maintain strong familiarity with local, state, and national news and events across our coverage area.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that works well with coworkers, supervisors, and the community at large.
- Work independently while out in the field and under various weather elements.
YOU HAVE:
- Excellent and flawless Spanish writing skills is absolutely necessary.
- Is expected that Anchors will have excellent pronunciation, delivery and voice projection as well as good on-camera appearance required.
- As a reporter you will be responsible for gathering information, developing sources and produce special stories or day to day news including live shots, explainers and reports.
- News Anchors must have the ability to sustain a wall-to-wall breaking news coverage for hours. Must have a good social presence, following and understanding of digital platforms.
- A bachelor's degree is required (i.e., journalism, television broadcasting).
- 5 years' newsroom experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Previous experience as an anchor highly preferred.
- Applicants must be able to use newsroom computer systems and applications (both hardware/software).
- Knowledge of iNews
- High ethical and journalistic standards.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for up to (8) hours without restrictions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds for extended periods of time.
