Are you interested in positively impacting students’ lives? We are seeking candidates for a collaborative, energetic, and innovative full-time, tenure-track faculty position to teach biology. Instructors are responsible for establishing and promoting an inclusive and effective learning environment to maximize student learning. Instructors may be assigned to teach a variety of biology courses in traditional classroom and/or blended/hybrid settings as needed in the Science and Mathematics Division at Delta College.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to include culturally competent and inclusive teaching practices that meet the college’s commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Delta College.
- Demonstrate a philosophy of teaching that provides learning opportunities that meet the needs of all students.
- Commitment to providing a learning environment that addresses the historical and contemporary sociocultural frameworks that provide a more holistic representation of the field of biology.
- Teach at least 30 equated credit hours annually of biology courses, specifically in the subfield of microbiology, general biology, and environmental science in a variety of settings including the main campus, Saginaw Center, Midland Center, or online. Online modalities include hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous.
- Focus on supporting and assessing student learning and academic achievement to promote student success.
- Develop innovative, dynamic, and engaging learning environments that support student learning and success.
- Collaborate voluntarily and enthusiastically with colleagues in the academic discipline and with other faculty colleagues to develop effective learning experiences for a diverse student body.
- Serve the community through outreach activities.
- Commit to ongoing educational and professional growth.
- Engage fully in course, discipline, program development, curriculum development and assessment.
- Attendance and participation in discipline, division, and college meetings.
- Ability to use a learning management system to deliver course material.
- Demonstrate teaching effectiveness which supports student learning and encompasses pedagogies for student success to meet course and/or program requirements.
- Work in a variety of settings which promote quality learning.
- Maintain professional development to assure currency within field of practice.
- Possess effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Master’s degree or higher in biology with at least 18 contact hours of relevant coursework in the Anatomy & Physiology for which courses are taught, or a professional degree with relevant coursework. Relevant course work for Anatomy & Physiology would zoology, comparative anatomy, mammalogy, biochemistry, cell biology, etc. from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Demonstrated current knowledge in Anatomy & Physiology.
- Ability to teach on multiple Delta campuses and online (asynchronously and synchronously).
- Recent experience in teaching anatomy and physiology using inclusive teaching practices.
- Commitment to inclusive classroom climates and curricular design that fosters a greater sense of community.
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity and Completion.
- Demonstrated proficiency in relevant technologies.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom climate and design curricula that foster greater sense of community.
- Teaching experience at the community college level.
- Experience using a variety of teaching technologies and methodologies, and delivery methods including online.
- Demonstrated current and ongoing professional growth.
- Experience working with non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills.
- Pedagogy is informed by belonging, equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Online, Hybrid, or blended teaching experience.
- Familiarity with learning management system software.
- Demonstrated ongoing professional growth.
