(Job #532102) Analyst/Programmer - Foundation, Salary Range: $3,713 - $7,149 monthly. Hiring Range: $3,713 - $4,269 monthly. OR Analyst/Programmer - Career, Salary Range: $4,678 - $11,547 monthly. Hiring Range: $4,678 - $5,833 monthly. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt (Foundation) OR exempt (Career), 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Application Design & Development (ADD) department in Information Technology Services. This position comes with a premium benefits package that includes outstanding vacation, medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, voluntary pre-tax health and dependent care reimbursement accounts, a fee waiver education program, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and 14 paid holidays per year. Position Summary: As an analyst within the Application Design & Development team in Information Technology Services, the incumbent provides general support to campus-wide databases and applications. Primary assignment is to support the Office of Admissions and Office of Registrar. The analyst also provides support as needed to other departments. Specific applications include PeopleSoft, Content 7, Modo, and APEX among others.

The incumbent is expected to demonstrate a commitment to the ITS Vision Statement of providing services to all students, faculty and staff, ensure the highest level of quality and integrity to all our clients and to follow the best practices of higher education, and demonstrate collaboration between offices, technological sophistication and multicultural and global perspectives.

This position may perform some duties remotely via telecommuting.  If operational needs allow, the appropriate administrator will set a schedule with the incumbent and file a Telecommute Program Form delineating which duties can be accomplished remotely. 

Key Responsibilities:

Foundation & Career:

Provides Application Support for Campus Central and Distributed Applications (40%)

  • Primary Assignments are Office of Admissions and Office of Registrar support
  • Analyzes and solves problems with applications and basic workflow

Application Analysis, Design and Development (40%)

  • Participate in the technical design work of functionality being selected
  • Write code & test
  • Modify existing and third-party software
  • Test, stage, and implement new upgrades
  • Practice secure coding techniques
  • Participate in code reviews with other ADD team members

Team Work (15%)

  • Work with ITS Help Desk to communicate changes and new processes  
  • Communicate effectively          
  • Work with the other units within Information Technology Services to present a consistent and effective set of services to the campus community

Other duties as assigned (5%)

Foundation:

Provides Application Support for Campus Central and Distributed Applications

  • Provides Tier 2 support for Help Desk initiated tickets related to ADD supported systems and applications
  • Has working knowledge of databases and tools to help solve problems

Career:

Provides Application Support for Campus Central and Distributed Applications

  • Provides Tier 2 and 3 support for Help Desk initiated tickets related to ADD supported systems and applications
  • Has in depth knowledge of databases and tools to help solve problems
  • Works relatively independently on tasks & projects

  • Demonstrated conceptual thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to create reports using reporting tools

Career:

  • Extensive experience with modifying and creating complex Oracle SQL queries
  • Demonstrated career progression in technical depth and breadth, project complexity, and ability to quickly become proficient in new technologies
  • Ability to perform all functions independently in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Software implementation lifecycle skills including extensive experience with translating business requirements into technical designs, contributing to fit/gap analysis, application configurations, and technical specifications
  • In-depth experience with creating business process guides, user documentations and process workflow
  • Excellent analytical skills, debugging techniques and root cause analysis skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Foundation:

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. 

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business, or related field with relevant training. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Career:

Meet Foundation-Level minimum qualifications, plus: Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within 5 years) full-time equivalent experience directly related to the position.  Additional experience, which has demonstrated the requisite skills/abilities, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Foundation & Career:

Demonstrated experience in:

  • PeopleSoft/PeopleTools environment
  • Perceptive Nolij Web, ImageNow, Content 7 or other document management/workflow tools
  • Oracle Application Express (APEX)
  • Mobile technologies such as ModoLabs or GreyHeller
  • Working in higher education environment
  • Working in an enterprise environment
  • User interface design
  • Working knowledge of Unix operating systems

Foundation:

  • At least one or more years of experience programming and creating complex SQL queries
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of Oracle databases, SQL, and reporting format.

Career:

  • Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge of network configuration, programming, and protocols
  • Extensive experience with modifying and creating complex Oracle database and SQL queries.
