Summary: The Compensation Analyst I, under general supervision, provides professional level support in the administration, development, and communication of district-wide compensation programs. Assists with job evaluations, market pricing and benchmarking, compensation analysis, salary administration, and implementation of compensation programs, practices, and policies.

- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Answer compensation-related questions and provide support in a timely manner via telephone, email, or other service-management systems
- Work proactively with staff from other departments to research and resolve compensation-related issues
- Consult, advise, and make recommendations regarding compensation decisions, including establishing pay rates for new hire, promotion, demotion, and other transfer pay actions
- Assist in the implementation of pay plans, including determining appropriate pay grades for new or revised jobs
- Assist with job evaluation studies and job analysis as required; assist with writing, revising, and maintaining updated job descriptions
- Assist with development, and administer and communicate compensation program initiatives, including classification reviews, strategies, policies and practices, salary structures, and short and long-term programs
- Assist with administration of the annual salary increase process, including preparing related cost analyses and calculating and processing increases for staff
- Assist with management and administration of district compensation plans, including base pay, bonus programs, and additional compensation; processes payments as necessary
- Perform market research and respond to market surveys as necessary; analyze market data to determine CMS's overall competitive compensation position; assist with preparing recommendations for market rate adjustments
- Calculate, process, and audit longevity payments for eligible employees, ensuring compliance with NC DPI guidelines
- Participate in activities relating to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) compliance issues, and prepare related analyses to ensure compliance with FLSA regulations and other federal and state laws
- Ensure employee length of service records as defined by NC DPI policies are accurate, and research and adjust employee records as necessary
- Assist with preparing cost and multifactor data analysis to develop projections as needed for budgetary purposes
- Maintain knowledge of current legislation and other regulatory requirements that impact compensation programs
- Create and maintain district organizational charts

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to apply current compensation theory, wage and salary practices, job evaluation methods, pay plan design and reward strategies
- Knowledge of and ability to understand and interpret applicable policies, state statutes, and federal laws and regulations, including wage and hour laws, NCDPI employment and benefit policies, and School Board policy
- Possess strong mathematical aptitude and the ability to collect and analyze data to make data-driven decisions
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to use v-lookups, pivot tables, and complex formulas
- Ability to write clear and concise communication materials regarding compensation programs
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
- Possess strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing demands and priorities
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with personal computers and programs, such as word processing programs, spreadsheets, and databases
- Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
