Americorps Paid Service Tutor

About Us:

The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is now accepting applications for Literacy AmeriCorps Members dedicated to providing service to the community in one of three specified roles: Elementary Reading Tutors, Graduation & Mentor Coaching at various sites throughout Palm Beach County.

Essential Duties:

· AmeriCorps members are expected to serve as reading tutors, teachers, mentors/graduation coaches for academic success.

· Members will also be responsible for collaborating with various community agencies to provide services on projects as needed.

· Complete 1,700 community outreach hours to raise awareness of literacy programs and services in the community throughout the term.

· Members are required to participate in weekly development meetings and various training opportunities. (Schedule will be provided prior to start).

· In the event of a local disaster, members are deployed to serve at shelters or Emergency Operations Centers prior to, during and immediately after a disaster, in partnership with the Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management.

· Members are also required to serve some weekends (Saturday or Sunday), completing various community service projects, literacy training events and conferences for a minimum of 2 weekends per month. as needed.

· Flexibility to work in environments either indoors or outdoors and travel to different sites within the county as needed.

Requirements:

· Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with teachers, administrators and other stakeholders providing coaching and support of AmeriCorps vision, mission, and goals.

· Members can expect to serve 35-42 hours per week at a school, youth program, family literacy center, library, or community agency.

· Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Must have a passion for promoting literacy and love for reading.

· Engage in meaningful professional development and training throughout the term of service.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and priorities.

· Must be able to commute to various service sites throughout the county.

· Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States of America.

· Must be able to satisfy the National Service Criminal History background check.

Education:

· Must have a high school diploma or equivalent or must be enrolled in an institution of higher education.

· Must have a college degree.

Benefits Include:

· Paid opportunity to develop real world skills through meaningful hands-on service. Stipend of up to $33,004 for full-time members.

· Living Allowance of $1,375.17 per pay period. (Bi-Weekly).

· Education award of up to $6,895 upon successful completion of the term.

· Company paid Health, Vision and Dental Insurance for full-time members.

· Part-time members are not eligible for health benefits.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires safely lifting or moving up to 25 lbs occasionally, for example, movement of materials or texts.

The Regular requirement may include some standing, sitting, walking, bending, squatting, pushing and or pulling.

The noise level is usually quite to moderate.

Telephone, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, Scanners, Computers, Ipads, Tablets, laptops.
