Description:
We’re seeking a self-motivated Alterations/Repair Specialist to maintain quality and speed while repairing safe and effective PPE for the first responders we serve.
Brand specific training will be provided.
Potential for travel with Alterations Specialist II position.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Repairs and alterations to PPE.
- Operate industrial sewing machine.
- Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot sewing machines.
- Ensure that sewing machines and other equipment are in good working order.
- Accurately measure customers using tape measures to ensure proper fit of garments.
- Ensure that sewing machines and other equipment are in good working order.
- Fit garments on customers to determine how the alterations should be done.
- Construct garments and other articles according to customers’ specifications and preferences.
- Label customers' garments and articles and record the alterations required.
- Communicate with the inside Apparel team to determine customer specifications, needs, and preferences.
- Use irons and pressing machines to erase the creases on garments and other articles.
- Thread machine and replace needles.
- Sew materials together by guiding material under machine needle.
- Adjust machine performance on material by observing machine operation, detecting malfunctions, adjusting settings.
- Maintain quality by inspecting finished product.
- Maintain materials and supplies inventory by checking materials and supplies to determine inventory level, anticipating needed materials and supplies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results.
- Assist in other special projects as assigned.
- Repairing tears, applying buttons, and mending zippers.
- Deconstruct dress uniform jackets to add strips, Maltese, etc., and reconstruct with jacket lining.
- Sew on and remove department patches from dress uniform jackets, button down shirts, etc.
- Sew/add zippers to shirts, add, change, or remove buttons from jackets.
- Alter, tailor, and taper dress uniforms.
- Hem/alter pants.
- Gear cleaning and gear inspections.
Position Requirements:
Qualifications
- Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proven sewing experience.
- Experience in measuring and tailoring uniforms
- Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.
- The ability to work under time constraints.
- Ability to operate on schedule and manage schedule changes.
- The ability to safely use different types of sewing machines.
- Effective communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- Minimum of 2 years of seamstress experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
