Looking for an individual to add to our Alpaca Shearing crews, no experience necessary – we can train as needed.
This is seasonal contract work that goes from April 23th-June 10th (approximately). During this time, you will be working 5-6 days a week. You will travel around New York State and beyond with a crew to farms and shear alpacas and llamas. The majority of nights you will be home, but there will be 8-12 nights that the crew stays out toward a job. This position will be an animal handler/wrangler. All expenses are paid for during work days and travel times. $200/day minimum with the likelihood of more, plus tips. Starting off, handlers usually make $5k-$6k per month.
Your primary job will be to handle and lead alpacas in preparation for their annual haircut.
Must be willing to work all days necessary within the time range with sometimes unpredictable hours and be able to lift 80+lbs.
Qualifications
- No prior experience required
- Basic knowledge of working with large animals is beneficial
- Ability to handle animals and demonstrate animal husbandry skills
- Have a teachable attitude and approach when it comes to work
- Ability to lift 80lbs+ and work some potentially long days
