Description

The Coordinator of Allied Health is responsible for coordination of the ALLIED HEALTH and emergency medical courses offered by Highland Community College.  These courses include, but are not limited to:  Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Med Aide, Med Aide Update, and EMT-B.

The Coordinator of the Allied Health Program provides coordination of all Allied Health programs and provides leadership to develop new ALLIED HEALTH programs in a collaborative environment. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Coordinator will work closely with the Administration by: 1) maintaining and improving existing Allied Health programs and create new programs throughout the western region of HCC; 2) communicating with and encouraging collaboration between and among community partners, health care providers, regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, professional groups, funding sources, and area colleges and universities; 3) working on special project assignments; and 4) perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing and in accordance with the provisions of the College.

The Coordinator will work with the Director of Nursing, staff, and faculty to develop and revise curriculum for each AH program area, prepare class schedules, develop and revise policies and procedures for those programs, coordinate committee and advisory groups, participate in hiring selections, collaborate on faculty assignments, and evaluate faculty and programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Plan and schedule all classes related to ALLIED HEALTH and emergency medical services.
  2. Actively recruit students and explore opportunities for program growth.
  3. Order, ensure availability, and maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies for all classes.
  4. Provide input to the Director of Nursing and the Vice President of Technical Education regarding major recommendations for equipment purchases, maintenance and repairs.
  5. Maintain a current mailing list and notify instructors, prospective students, and facilities of class schedules.
  6. Ensure compliance with regulations with the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  7. Develop and revise all course curricula according to state regulations.
  8. Maintain and report all statistical information and various forms required by the State Department of Aging and Disability, Health and Occupations Credentialing, and other agencies as required.
  9. Assess community needs on an ongoing basis and develop new ALLIED HEALTH courses as deemed appropriate.
  10. Ensure that current contracts are on file with all clinical facilities prior to course delivery.
  11. Review and approve all course syllabi for appropriateness, consistency, and compliance with all regulations.
  12. Contribute to the instructor evaluation process by observing on-site courses.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Required:

-Valid driver's license

-Healthcare background

Preferred:            

- LPN or RN                                         

- Experience in long-term care             

- Experience in teaching/education

 

Language Skills

Good oral and written communication skills.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, employees, clients, and the general public.
