Allergy Technician/Medical Assistant Job Summary:

Allergy Technicians perform allergy testing, prepare individualized allergy extract Rx’s and treatment plans for patients. They perform a wide range of patient education and provide immunotherapy injections subcutaneously (SCIT) and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT).

Allergy Technician/Medical Assistant Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs and interprets allergy testing.
  • Prepares individualized allergy extract Rx for patient based off allergy test results.
  • Educate patients about diagnoses, prognoses, treatments, and allergy tests.
  • Document patient medical history.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans for each patient.
  • Administers allergen immunotherapy via subcutaneous injections or sublingual drops to treat immune conditions.
  • Must understand sterile and aseptic technique.
  • Multitasking and teamwork. Assist coworkers in confirming vials are prepared properly and treatment plans are appropriate.
  • SLIT training for drops and/or tablets for patients that take allergy medication home.
  • Responsible for keeping up with expired bottles or when a patient needs a new bottle.
  • Uses Allergy EMR and Epic EMR systems.
  • Schedule patients for allergy tests and trainings
  • Assists patients with insurance benefits and questions.
  • Clean up after injection or testing and dispose of all medical equipment properly.
  • Communicate with providers regarding treatment plans for their patients.
  • Handle emergency situations; anaphylaxis, vasovagal incidents, CPR, breathing treatment and medication administration as appropriate.

Allergy Technician/Medial Assistant Job Qualifications:

  • Previous medical assisting experience is strongly preferred, though not required.
  • Registration (RMA), Certification (CMA/MA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Required
  • Experience using electronic medical records, preferably in EPIC preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and function efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates must work well independently and with a team.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are a must!
